Just bumped into this...
by StarTrekAngel inthis is a phrase taken from the current wt magazine being studied.
someone already took it and ran with it, posting it as a banner in a pro-jw site called "i am proudly a jw".
it's in spanish, but you can look it up in the english version of the mag.

I read that during the meeting and exploded in anger. Fortunately, I wasn't visibly troubled. -

Service meetings - "God loves us and that's why He sent us Jesus. Remember to learn to read well and act well in front of the congregation. Remember not to waste the householder's time, but remember to give them a magazine and tell them everything written in the Bible."
Sunday meetings - "The world is evil. God hates the world. God loves his people. God is represented by the perfect imperfect-humans in the Governing Body. Remember to follow their rules."

Getting JWs To Think By Using Their Own Tactics On Them.
by Island Man ini've been thinking that an effective way to expose the idiocy and vacuousness of jwism is to use it right back on them when they come to your door.
say you're a fader and you've moved to the territory of a different circuit where the jws there don't know your jw background.
when they come knocking at your door, just put on the jw mindset and pretend to yourself that the jws at the door are not jws but members of a "false religion.".

I gotta say, if you use this tactic, you might end up making them simply leave the door. I'm thinking that if you somehow are able to make them come back by saying that you're only "kidding", then you could justify it by saying "I just wanted to demonstrate how JWs like you defend their faith", and hopefully they'll pay enough attention to hear that, and you could make them think.
It may sound like nonsense, but being away from a JW mindset of a while made me forget how JWs think.

This Year's Memorial
by TD inperhaps i'm just getting older and crankier, but it really seems to me that the jw faith is deteriorating at an accelerated rate.. case in point: this year's memorial talk.
it was one of the most incoherent messes i've ever heard.
(and i've heard a lot of memorial talks over the last 50 years....).

It was quite lame. Our speaker said we'd do "exactly what the Bible tells us to do", read a scripture saying that we should eat the bread and drink the wine, but didn't. In fact, the only similarity I was able to notice was the presence of bread and wine and that we "prayed" before... well, before passing it around. -

Thanks, mate. You, too! :D -

by Ghiagirl inthis is my first year i will not attend memorial.
to be honest if it wasn't for my husband i would probably be going still.
he says what's the point, don't be one of those people who doesn't give a sh** but just shows there face once a year.

My Memorial is at 9:30 PM, so I'll be home by MIDNIGHT. Of all the stupid things that the Watchtower has done, none have made me so angry (except how they deceived my family into believing their bull$#i#). I would love to not go, but the last thing I need is an angry mom and dad. I hate the concept of driving half way across the metropolitan area only to pass around perfectly edible bread and wine, only to not eat it and throw it out afterwards. How is this even sane? -

"I have seen more leaving than coming in. Young ones are exiting at alarming rates. TTATT is out and everywhere, so resistance is futile.SL"
Speak for yourself. In the congregations I've been in, there's always been growth. I think it may be because the elders are too scared to arbitrarily DF people.

" My dad got up and walked out in the middle of that meeting and walked all the way home. He missed Tony's special part but I was gracious enough to show him all the wonderful places on YouTube he could get filled in. Go Dad, he's 75 btw and has been in the Org since the 1960s."
The only people who left from our group of congregations were the ones who couldn't understand English. Appearantly, the Watchtower cares so little about non-English speakers that they wouldn't even translate the annual meeting for them, the very event that was highlighted for its "importance" and that everyone was supposed to attend.
I guess I'm technically a newbie, having joined a few months ago. I also have indeed noticed an influx of new members, but since I've only been lurking a month before joining, I haven't really paid attention, since I didn't know how the trend was before I first stumbled upon this forum.

How do you feel about religion as a whole?
by FatherFirst init just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?
-
ivanatahan
I, for one, support the progression of mankind. Having said that, I feel that religion is indeed the "opium of the masses" and only acts as an anchor that hinders the progress of mankind. Of course, some religions aren't as much of an anchor as, say, the three main monotheistic religions.
Many people are just find without religion, but there are some people who need the hope, albeit false hope, that religion can offer. I don't need that hope, and likely never will. To be honest, the Jecultah's Blindness religion has made me hate religion as a whole, although I appreciate the culture and traditions of religions, like the architecture of Orthodox churches or the Hajj to Mecca.

Foreign Language Congregations
by SonoftheTrinity inare they stricter or laxer?
i've read comments on this board that the spanish speaking congregations are stricter.
somehow i imagine pacific islander congregations are laxer because they aren't as at odds with the culture.

I'm in the Russian in America, and I can tell you it is SUPER relaxed. We get like 1 DF'ed brother/sister every few years, and those that do almost always come back or are never seen again. Many brothers/sisters are "unspiritual" and the elders cast a blind eye. Even I do things that are contreversial and I don't even get mentioned in any elder's meeting, at least according to my father, who is an elder.
