but, usually, when you have a discussion on the topic, these christians will end up saying that only the original copies written directly from the hands of the prophets and apostles were error-free, and all manuscript copies since then are subject to copyist mistakes and other errors.. since zero original copies are in existence, how do we know the originals were error-free?

why should we think the originals should be error-free to begin with?

FT - Truth trumps all. Love and kindness are the works of our social empathy which is truth and demonstrable. From what I have been studying since I left the jw cult I've found the study and application of ethics to be a better guide to morals than the bible by far. I agree with you that there are some good things in the bible.

You appear to be holding on to the notion that belief in god is necessary for morality. That was an area I struggled with initially as well. So I took my research in that direction. Have you, listened to the YouTube channel Evid3nc3, dawkins god delusion or anything about morality without God?

If you haven't, ask yourself why not? Could it be that you are worried that once you do, you know subconsciously what the outcome will be. If so how is that any different from jw's refusing to research their doubts about watchtower. Much is at stake. Once I left I refused to be anyone's slave again. Truth trumps all. I believe in research, research, research, and will never just take someone else's word for it again.

Thank you for asking. He is doing well. We have his quarterly spinal chemo treatment on Monday which is always challenging. We do our best to make it a special day for him. Favorite movies, usually Star Wars, Steak, Mac & Cheese, new present, and so on. He only has 4 more of these and then he will hopefully be good to go. We are so looking forward to February 2016 when his treatment is done. Then Make-A-Wish trip for my kids hopefully a Disney Cruise.

FT - Ask yourself if you would be defending the Vedas, the Quran, or Moroni if you were born into one of these as you were into Christianity.

I for one know that I would have. It is all I have ever known. Be honest with yourself and then analyze your current belief system. Whether you are biased in your conclusions or if you let the evidence guide you. It is extremely difficult to let go. Painful even.

What do you value most? I value truth above all. My ego still gets in the way more often than I like. But I keep questioning, whether it's uncomfortable or not.

Sad, so sad. When will people like you and the rest of fairy tale believing mankind wake up from the non sense that is religion/any religion? Christian apologists just like JW apologists lose on all fronts. Your only hope is the god of the gaps theory and anyone can use that to state a belief in anything. Say Thor or Princess Diana.

Site fairy tale text all you want. It holds no authority other than vain allegiance to man made belief systems. Written as well stated by others, by iron age goat herders trying to make sense of their world. The GB follow the example of their principal text better than most other fundamentalist Christian denominations. By speaking out of both sides of their mouths. Letting their readers pick and choose what suits them best.

if you were somehow magically put in-charge of the governing body tomorrow, by jesus, with the rules being, you could not teach anything that would be considered outright apostasy and you could not teach anything that would be considered to cause doubt about god's existence... (so as not to arouse suspicion).

what "new light" or "clarified understandings" would you introduce first?.
