Tenacious I had this same discussion with my wife the other day so your thoughts are fresh on my mind. If their is an intelligence behind all of this what is the intelligence that made that intelligence? Which requires greater faith believing a house was built by itself over millennia or the maker of that house just appeared or had no beginning. The ridiculous thought of god not having a beginning would keep me up at night as a kid.

I will no longer believe without evidence. I have been burned for far too long and almost lost what was most precious to me because of wanting to believe without evidence. Never again and I hope others do not continue in a course of willing blindness. Because it comes at a great cost.

Just because cultures mention heaven does not mean they taught or believed that god existed outside of time and space.

I just have the last portion of my 2nd question left to be answered. Did the jews introduce a god to the world that existed outside of time and space? Or was this concept predated by for example the epic of Gilgamesh. Or misunderstood and an anachronism that theists are using to try and prove the god of the bible. I don't like to let false claims go without a response as they gain credibly where I believe there is none.

I agree with you Fink. I am looking for solid evidence for the theists claim. I am sure it's out there. If it hasn't been than it will soon I am sure. What I'm primarily looking for is proof that these concepts predated the bible or that theists are reading current meaning into texts that were not there when it was written.

Even without solid evidence on this one point does not negate all of the evidence that their is no god. Theism is currently dying of a thousand cuts. It may be slow but it is happening.

The first part of my second question has been answered. What about god existing outside of time and space? Cahill in his book asserts (I believe falsely) that the Jews introduce linear time adding with god existing outside time and space. Does anyone know of a book or author that disproves these assertions based on evidence.

Fink. I agree with everything you mention. The ones I brought out were 2 lingering items for me. As I have stated I do not believe the Bible is God's word or that there is a god at all.

Thank you for continuing to expand on this topic. I am looking for specific info on the 2 topics. The first one evidence has been furnished. Does anyone have evidence for the second?

First I would like to thank you for your responses and your citations. They are very helpful. I am new to all of this as I just found out ttatt in September of 2014 and now branching into new territories.

Fink - I am not stating that I believe these things. Point 1 is out of the jw book cited.

William - Do you have any references? My wife was listening to a debate between Danesh D'souza and Hitchens I think and D'souza made this point. Hitchens did not address it. It stuck with her because I used to make that point after I read "The Gift of The Jews" by Thomas Cahill. I think the same as you now, that it was taken from another civilization. I just would like some sort of evidence as that is my new motto. Show me the evidence.

I remember studying this book years ago and how it impacted my belief system. I no longer believe the Bible is God's word. However I do have a couple of lingering questions on this subject. Part of my curiosity is for my edification and the other so I have a response for believers.

The 2 that I would like all of your thoughts on are.

1- The Bible is not a scientific book but when it touches on science it is accurate. e.g. earth is hanging upon nothing, & placed above the circle of the earth. Is this the first time in history this was mentioned?

2 - This one I believe is not in the book sited but related to the same subject. The Bible for the first time introduces a singular monotheistic god that exists outside of time and space.

Your thoughts and references if you have some are greatly appreciated.

Really!!! After visiting this site you still believe anything wtbs states/prints?

Who flippin cares. This is what stands for serious biblical discussion in jw land. A true reflection of the mind control that continues to rule the day. This has been a topic among jw's for decades now. I came across this at least 20 years ago in a waste of what they call a school.

At least bring something original to the table.

What exactly can I use from this video to help my family? I'm willing to listen to something that will help. I just listened to roughly 20 minutes and there is not a thing in that time that I can use to help them. Is there a time at which there are some practical suggestions?

I'm not interested in being preached at any more. I have already wasted 40 years of my life listening to people drone on. I can't handle people droning on and on about there personal revelation. It's like listening to the crappy personal experiences I had to listen to as a jw and hated. I couldn't bear reading the yearbook and tried to skip the meetings that reviewed them.

Most of my family is still trapped and I will try any method to get them out. If this is false advertising to get many like me to listen shame on you.
