we thought treatment worked as she finished her chemo treatment a month ago.
i just got a call from her that she has lumps on her legs and she has been extraordinarily tired.

My sister was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma earlier this year. We thought treatment worked as she finished her chemo treatment a month ago. I just got a call from her that she has lumps on her legs and she has been extraordinarily tired. It's likely back.
I tried asking her to research the blood issue and not just her normal resources. She then told me a few minutes later that a sister in her hall has a list of doctors that respect the jws stand on blood.
I'm at a loss. She has and continues to go through so much. Her 2 youngest have autism. The youngest will always need care.
I want to help her but my hands are tied because of her ties to this cult. She is 13 years my senior and was like a mom to me. The rest of my siblings are very in this cult. 2 are elders, and the youngest is a ms with a son at bethel.
I am open to suggestions.

ISW1961 you are no different than other Christians then. Pick and choose as you see fit. Thats not my Jesus many say. Ignoring all the inconvenient parts. Why is the scripture you highlighted any more valid then the others? Let me guess it fits into your world view.
I used to think like you that I could change it from within. Than I read Crisis of Conscience. JWism needs to go the way of the dodo as in their own words their blood guilt is heavy and the stench is great.
Do you still go in your so called ministry? Trapping others in this high control group. Setting them up for the mind manipulation so characteristic of the JW's.
Did you ever watch the YouTube "Bending Truth"? It is only a half hour.

A time to recognize

I can as well. Coming out of a high control group can be very painful. I used to be very judgemental. I have been responsible for the shunning of others as a former elder. I as a true believer almost lost son due to jw blood policy.
You can overcome and help others in need from your experience.

JWs have more good points than bad
by lsw1961 in1) many who were on the destructive path have been transformed by their teachings (this includes me who was once vicious, and presumptuous and atheistic).
2) equal monthly pay to all members of the bethel community regardless of whether they are bc members or sweepers.
this is something that still remains as an unattainable dream for the world.

You just made my point. Most people will only take a stand for something if it impacts them. Unfortunately it is a very human thing to do. In fact there was a recent study that highlighted the flawed belief that a religious upbringing makes people more altruistic. In fact the opposite proved true. Religious people were the least altruistic and the most biased in favor of their group. JW's are no different.
On the one hand you were lucky to have been born into a family that valued education and free will. I was not. In fact I almost got kicked out of my house for wanting to go to a 9 month trade school so I could support myself pioneering. In fact I was the only one of 5 in my family to go through my 12 years of general ed to get my high school diploma. I know I am not alone with these types of experiences.
You speak of compassion. Where is yours when it comes to this subject. What about the policy of turning a blind eye and covering over child abuse.
Watch "bending truth" on YouTube to see how your own guilt is likely preventing you from seeing reality. You are rationalizing here. When I started too wake up I felt an extreme sense of shame and pain that I just wanted to go away. Try to imagine what its like to believe you love your firstborn son that doctors told you and your wife you would never be able to have. I wanted to be in that hospital bed in his place, but couldn't. I sacrificed him like Abraham and I carry deep shame now. I have to give him chemo every night and want to swallow a bullet after I do. I can't though because that would be extremely selfish of me and the last thing he and my family needs and deserves.
I understand how painful cognitive dissonance is. It would be easier for me to pretend and live in the fantasy that jwism creates. I can't though because the cost is to great.
