i was told the jw's were predicting a new date based on moses timeline as opposed to daniel and ezekial.

i don't get the magazines anymore so i don't have the feb. 1st watchtower that i was told the article was in.

does anyone know the name of this article so i can read it on the watchtower.org?

for me it was beards.

stupid i know and possibly the most trivial of things to be 'stumbled' over but to me it was the epitomy of what was wrong with the witnesses - arbitrary rules poking their noses into the lives of people where they had no business.

I still like the old stuff!

i've been reading sf since grade school.

i love the old masters like heinlein, norton, asimov, wells, clarke.

i must admit that the little that i have read of the new stuff is mostly incomprehensible to me.

Hey that's cool! I used to read much SF before becoming a JW and than had no time anymore for it because of ... you know Matthew 6:33 "putting kingdom first". But now i started again and the the first book was the one of Orwell 1984 - Big Brother is watching you. Also the other mentioned are well known. Does someone also read Stanislaw Lem? That's my favorite writer.

Elders stepping down - what got your goat?

many here formerly served as elders.

what trivia/humiliation got your goat about how you were treated as an ex-elder?.

the obvious is the cermonial handing in of the elder's book - "you have been stripped of your rank and are no longer worthy of such a fine book".

When i resigned from being a MS the PO asked me to pass my keys to a brother handling the mags instead of me. I went there to prepare them for the last time and surprisingly the other brother was already there inside the Hall handling the mags. So it should have been just a stupid excusion for handing out them.

But funny thing was having them been busy with splitting a book study within just a few days
