Great job! I wish as I was as fast on my feet as you were. I'm horrible at speaking and keeping things straight verbally.....I can do a much better job writing, but not much use for that in your situation less I wrote my own tract! ha ha ha

LAME (or funny) JW "Get together" stories, please...
by exwitless inok,i've been sick for 2 days (sore throat, feeling run-down) so i could use some good laughs.
something just made me think of how absurdly lame jw "get-togethers" always were.
there were several that we went to (when we were still being love-bombed as newbies) where we ate dinner, then played bible pictionary.

When I was a kid, we had fun congregation get togethers. At that time schools in our area would allow you to rent the gym/cafeteria. We would have a pot-luck dinner and there would be people playing basketball in the gym, kids dancing to music, and maybe some tennis outside (if the school had tennis courts. Congregation picnics were fun, too. But, then they cracked down on big gatherings and then the smaller get togethers at people's homes could be lame.....people would talk later if you had music or it was too loud or you watched a 'bad' movie or basically just had fun. I did have a bunch I ran with when I lived in Indianapolis and we would play cards or board games....and NOT Bible ones. The Eurchre parties were a blast. I do miss the good old days sometimes.

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I know it's not easy, as I just had to make that decision in July with my dog, but sometimes it's just the right and humane thing to do. Keep dwelling on those happy memories!

esw1966: I know a couple of people in Bloomington/Normal....one is my former niece (from my 1st JW marriage). I would love for her to also be out, but I don't see that ever happening. Were you orginally from IL? I'm in East Central IL.

FS experiences that got you doubting
by greendawn indid things happen eg people told you things that got you doubting about the wts while you were on the field service?
.
i recall a girl i had never met before who was crying (after we talked for a while) for being shunned by another local congo, and i thought that it was too cruel to shun people and something was not right with the jws.

While I had had various doubts since being in high school, I just thought that I needed to "study more" so that they would go away. Both my previous ex-husbands are now XJWs and they also had their doubts, etc. One was a former Bethelite and going there, he said, ruined whatever JW spirituality he had. Anyway, back to me......I had a co-worker who was Catholic who was receptive to many things, but always wanted more proof than just the JW literature. When I would find things in the Catholic encyclopedia or some other reference book, she willingly accepted the information, however I did find things which were misquoted or taken out of context. My co-worker lovingly suggested that I check as many references as I could and be like the Bereans. If JW teachings were right, they would withstand anything. So, I kept that in mind, especially since that is what we taught new studies to do with their religions. So, during a time when I was off work after a small surgical procedure (with no JW's visiting or any kind of LOVE shown), I decided that I needed to "make the truth my own" and study, study, study. If I was going to teach my daughter these things, I needed them solid in my heart and mind, as well. Well, that did it. That was the beginning of the end for me. I found so many things that enhanced my doubts. I found misquotes, lies, changing information, etc. I haven't seen that former co-worker for many, many years now, but I will always have her to thank for my truly seeing the 'cult' for what it is. If she had been rude or pushy about it, I would have just dismissed her as being a poor mislead worldly person. Instead she had the right approach and helped a poor mislead JW.

Have you had to fire anyone?
by seahart inughh, i had to let my accoutant/book keeper go.
by the why she took it you would have thought we had been b-friend/g-friend.
she called after a half hour to say she wasn't believeing me.

Yes, unfortunately I have. It sucks. So does the "shape up or ship out" discussions. I'm no longer in a direct supervisory position (moved on up), thank goodness. However the last person I fired was quite an experience. She apparently had a problem with keeping her clothing on or something....LOL.....(BTW, her second job was as a stripper I learned later). She would think nothing of coming into my office and dropping her slacks to show me her "cool new tattoo". What got her fired was when she went into an office of another employee -- with several people in there for training -- and (dispite their protests) showed them all her "cool new clit piercing". She harrassed me for a while with phone calls (trying to disguise her voice), but stopped whenour company's security department started to investigate the calls. Anyway, I don't envy anyone who has to deal with staff issues and discipline!
Regarding the items she has -- can't you get an attorney or police involved?

Does anyone know from the book if her mother's name is Jan. If she is a nurse who practices in Illinois at a bloodless facility?
That was the first person I thought of when I heard the name Castro. My folks knew Jan and she even traveled down from Chicago, where the bloodless hospital was located, for some get togethers that their congregation had (about 60 miles south of Chicago). I'd also be interested to know if there was a connection.

My thoughts are with you and your family. I understand your loss, as I lost my treasured beagle in July. Your 'funeral' sounded alot like the one we had for Remy. That is truly special.

Sad thread. my cat is dead. looking for sympathy.
by avengers into all of you who know what it is to miss a loved pet.. i never knew in all my jdubb years that it can hurt so much when an animal dies.
i never knew that a man could get attached to a cat.
when i was a dubb i would not allow the kids to have a housepet 'cause then you couldn't spend as much time in service.
