What do JWs think of AIDS?
by somebodylovesme inthis might sound like a weird question... i know (obviously) jws despise homosexuality, drug use, blood transfusions, and promiscuity.
but those (as much as they might hate to admit it) are not the only ways people get aids.
i'm far from an expert, but babies can contract it from mothers, a faithful person (married or unmarried) can contract it from a partner who has not been so faithful, a person may not know they have it, and the list goes on.

someone mentioned it yesterday, and i was pretty embarassed to have missed that little line on my calendar.
oh, well; since we are not practicing any religion and feel no more affinity toward christianity than toward, say, sikhism, i felt no ache in not partaking in the bunny-rabbit traditions.

Thanks for the response. As to the pin's value, what I would LOVE to say to them is: I support organizations who actually HELP people in need instead of judging and criticizing them. But instead, I will probably say (also a truthful answer) that it is in honor of a person I know who is living with AIDS and I support that person 100% -- and all the other people who may feel alone or unloved because of an epidemic disease.
Their answer is such a cop-out... grrr... like bad things never happen to Witnesses. Whatever.

I actually forgot it was Easter this weekend. Someone mentioned it yesterday, and I was pretty embarassed to have missed that little line on my calendar. Oh, well; since we are not practicing any religion and feel no more affinity toward Christianity than toward, say, Sikhism, I felt no ache in not partaking in the bunny-rabbit traditions. (Never a Witness, but I was raised in a somewhat religious family.)
So I mentioned to mom that I forgot about Easter, and she asked if we were going to church tomorrow. I said... "No, of course not. We're not Christian." She was horrified and told me not to "admit" that to anyone publicly, because even people who "Aren't Christians celebrate Easter in a secular way." Not an hour later, I talked to a friend of mine who is devoutly atheist -- and she mentioned she was cooking Easter dinner. I'm like... wwhhhaaaaa? And she explains that it's a tradition and her family is coming over. hmmmm.
Now, I understand Christmas, because it is more of a cultural thing anymore than a religious thing to a lot of people. But Easter? That has always been distinctly religious to me. So that's my question: if you're not a religious person, do you do anything for Easter? Dinner? Eggs? Church?
Just curious. ;)

In some parts of the world, people don't know how to protect themselves from it.
Preaching to the choir here, I'm sure. In my mind, NO ONE EVER "deserves" to get AIDS, nor do they "Ask" for it or anything like that. And I think, given the additional ways it can be transmitted, even Witnesses should be able to admit that innocent people (who have not "sinned" according to WT standards) can still get AIDS. So, then, since I honestly have never heard it discussed (I was never a JW)... what do JWs think of AIDS? Do they support AIDS research? Do they actively teach that people with AIDS deserve it?
More to the point, if I wore my AIDS Awareness pin at my JW in-laws house, do you think they would find it offensive? (Note: I will wear it anyway, no matter what they think. But I like to know if I'm offending them or not.)
So, sorry to ramble, but I guess I'm just curious about their compassion level -- if it even registers on the meter.

A Rural Trend?
by Dan-O ini was talking with one of my brothers recently, and he commented on something he's noticed while travelling.
he noticed that a lot of kingdom halls seem to be popping up in rural areas.
i know that a town in the next county built one outside of town a couple of years ago, and the kh in my own town has a 'for sale' sign on the lawn.

In our region, ALL the Halls are in the country. I've never seen one in a city. I thought they just liked their privacy.

I did my good deed for the day
by neverthere inhubby came home with a purse he found on the road.
in it was an envelope stuffed with money, i mean alot!
of money.. it took half an hour but i tracked down the owner of the purse and called her.

as their other cessna twin-engine, this one is also based in alaska.
