no pepperoni on your pizza
Is this widespread?? The JW families I know eat pepperoni... from Pizza Hut... and I've never heard them complain or comment.
Their policies never cease to amaze me!

i found this on the official jw site:
conscience
jehovah's witnesses avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the scriptures, and they do not follow traditions that contradict bible teachings.

question for all ye wise folks in the know -.
was the "beware the voice of strangers" talk (http://quotes.watchtower.ca/bewarethevoiceofstrangers.htm) given at the district conventions last summer?
i'm not terribly familiar with how that works.
Blacksheep: Thank you. I am always amazed by their rhetoric, and how effective it is despite the insanity of it! I'm glad you appreciated my post.
Euphemism: That is very helpful to know. Thank you!

Thanks for the responses. I have not yet had the (mis)fortune of attending a convention... and don't ever plan to... so I'm glad I can come here to learn about how it all works.

when i was in jw land, i used to like keeping a copy of each magazine, i did this for years, then one day my mom found them in my closet, and chewed me out for keeping them ( ???????
go figure).
she said magazines were for placing not keeping, do you know how much money you wasted, i might of been 13 or so at the time, i never forgot that experience.. anyone else have similar experiences regarding literature ??
My dub in-laws must be abnormal... they have a couple stacks of old mags. The oldest one I have seen in the stacks (yes, I have dug through...) was 2000, so that's not terribly old. They also have a few select mags from the past ten years - probably less than a dozen - of "notable" topics that I guess were important to them. Plus they have all the bound editions and other literature.
(They do have a lot of non-dub literature, too; they are BIG into the classics.)

Thanks! I am going to write about how the Society prevents the exposure of scandals (pedophiles and UN) by restricting access to the medium through which such information is publicly transmitted. Since documentaries and the Internet are specifically cited in that talk, it seems like a reasonable deduction to me.
I love Rhetoric class...

Was the "Beware the Voice of Strangers" talk (http://quotes.watchtower.ca/bewarethevoiceofstrangers.htm) given at the District Conventions last summer? I'm not terribly familiar with how that works. My hubby says the same talks are given everywhere, but I just want to make sure. I'm using it in a new little research paper I'm doing for school (ah, the Witnesses provided an endless source of research topics).
Thanks in advance.

what % of converts are former rc/luther/baptist etc etc?
What? I thought all JW's used to be crack addicts who have seen the light and changed their ways...
Oh, wait, no, I must have read too much of last year's Watchtower Calendar with all those before/after pictures.
I don't know what religious group most hail from... that is an interesting question, though! I wonder if they keep track?

i am trying to fade slowly, but am finding this increasingly difficult.
i can't sit through a meeting, i had to leave at the 1/2 the other day, because of my recent enlightenment, the hypocrisy is to much for me to take.
as i left you could see the looks on people faces, "oh she's just not spritual enough".
My husband was the JW, not me, so I will try to recount his timeline: Started having serious doubts in (roughly) 1996. Continued going regularly through 1998, was by then sure he needed to get out. Stopped "skipping" in 1998-1999, but kept going and was still active. Stopped attending regularly in 2002. Last set foot in a hall over a year ago.
He basically did that by finding things to keep him busy -- college, a full time job, an internship, etc. He was literally too busy to go. He was still friendly with everyone from the Hall and occasionally did social things with some people (although many shunned him for dating me, a worldly girl). He was entirely inactive by the early part of last year, but is not DF'ed or DA'ed. Fading really is the ideal situation, if you can pull it off. Worked for my hubby... I hope it works for you. Be strong!

it was a good show: always making me laugh.
i'll miss all friends: joey, chandler, ross, monica, rachel and phoebe.
Me, too, although I must often hide my secret love of that show. Thankfully, it is on four times a day in reruns here. (Our region must love Friends!)
