Rev - What exactly was your complaint?

So what exactly IS an apostate?
by somebodylovesme ini was under the impression that an apostate was anyone who left the witnesses, was df'ed/da'ed, or was just actively opposed to them.
but i was reading in my hubby's old "reasoning book" that an apostate is one who professes to believe in christ (but not the jws), claims to serve god (but is not a jw), tries to pull away current jws or attack them.
so, by that definition, would someone who fades away and professes no religion still be considered an apostate if he or she didn't try to take anyone with them and did not attack the religion?.

I don't think you can even post questions... I think you have to e-mail the mod, and if they like you, they'll write you back?? I don't know. Not spending too much time worrying about it, but sheeeeeeesh.
If that is counting time... oy vey.

(I have my husband in mind, of course, as in the back of my mind there will always be that his fading will explode in our faces and we will lose the whole darn family.)
But then... I guess holidays would be considered "professing to believe in Christ"? I don't think so, personally, as we do a quiet (very small) Christmas with no religious acts/symbols. We are happily unreligious.
Just thinking out loud here... Thanks.

Why Do We Feel? *Human Emotions & Evolution
by dh inif humans evolved in darwins theory of natural selection and survival of the fittest, what would have caused our emotional feelings to come into being?.
is emotion a part of human survival that it would be a necessary thing to evolve, in a prehistoric world was emotion part of a mating process?
or is it only explainable if we say it's a gift from god, and therefore we were created?

asleif_dufansdottir - I agree. I particularly like the evolutionary psychology approach, but I know it is very controversial. I am not in a scientific field... I'm off in the happy land of liberal arts, where any talk of biology is scorned like nothing else. Heaven forbid our genetics play ANY role in the way we are... hmmmmm...
I've read many books for my own field from the "socialization is everything" camp... and while I agree with some aspects, I personally am more inclined to fall on the biological side of the argument. But that's just me, and many people who are much more educated, I'm sure, think differently. To each their own!

I highly recommend reading E.O. Wilson's "On Human Nature" and Robert Wright's "The Moral Animal" - plus anything by Steven Pinker -- they are foremost researchers in sociobiology / evolutionary psychology. I've read the first two books listed and they changed the way I view everything. Good reads, good for those without a lot of scientific background, too.

Can someone be "saved" just by reading the Bible?
by somebodylovesme inawhile back, i read one of those pages with questions to ask jws.
one question was something to the effect of: "can someone be saved by just reading the bible?
" -- and the page said the bible says that this is true, but (obviously) witnesses teach the obvious.

Thanks for all the replies. :) I didn't even notice people were replying again.. lol.
I think I have a better sense now of the Biblical context -- I was never a Christian of any variety, so I am not up to par on my Biblical knowledge.
Thanks, all -- gotta fly now ~~~~~~
