  Embarassed at school for being a Witness - Did this happen to you?

  when they played the national anthem everyone stood up...except afew of us witness kids who stood out like a saw thumb....a brother two rows ahead of me had a teacher physically drag him to his feet as he struggled to explain himself...i would sweat like a pig as others pointed and laught and told me off...from then on i would hide in the toilet till i heard the anthem finish then come out.. then theirs birthday holidays, sex education, religious studies which i wanted to do since i would be a star but i was banned by my family.. do you have an embarassing hide like a rat in the toilet moment..

  I remember there was a bit of a fuss here with two camps -- one stood for the anthem and the other did not. My kindergarten teacher grabbed my cousin and I by the wrist and physically lifted us in the air so we completely cleared the ground, it hurt to say the least. It was shortly after that we got the stand but don't sing instructions, a bit too late. I was so glad to have left before my grad though I shook from nerves the whole time I was singing the national anthem.

  I remember in kindergarten my cousin hadn't been told that mother's day was "bad" so I had to "save" him and set him straight on that so he wouldn't make a card. My teachers mostly had me do the crafts in ways that were less holidayish. Like I made a knitting basket instead of an easter basket (yarn instead of eggs, etc) etc.

  The worst for me was always remembrance day and having to be excused to go to the library. In elementary school I got written notes excusing me. In middle school I had to deal with explaining to the teacher in front of everyone why I couldn't go. When I got into high school I was so sick of explaining I just booked it and went AWOL for the whole morning and got hauled to the principal's office for skipping class. The worst was the year the languages teacher demanded an explanation in french in front of the whole class.

  Service was a whole other story. I got mooned once by a kid from my class. Another time this girl everyone hated thought I was her new friend because I actually placed magazines with her. Finally there was the boy that spat on me in front of everyone in gym class for coming to his house. And one of his friends punched me repeatedly while the gym teacher actually laughed. Little wonder the first time someone tormented me when I was out of the JWs I punched her so hard they had to x-ray her ribs

  Books were bad too. I still remember when mom found out what harry potter was about. I used to have to sit outside the classroom when the teacher read Matilda to us in fourth grade as well. And sit doing math while everyone celebrated class birthdays. Or be the doofus in band who sat there while everyone else played God Save the Queen or the national anthem. Of course no overnight trips and no honor band because that was on meeting nights. No after school activites, no parties, no friends outside the cong. I still can't seem to make friends even to this day and I don't think I will ever be able to despite being fairly well spoken, intelligent, reasonably well looking and kind hearted. I'm just..awkward when it comes to socializing and I know it all goes back to being a JW.

  Jehovah's Witnesses and UFC fights on television...

  i am beginning to forget the exact rules and regulations concerning this type thing (thank goodness)... but witnesses are not "allowed" to watch fighting such as boxing and ufc prize fighting, correct?

  Probably just didn't expect to see you there and were hoping to avoid any conversation with an apostate. Definitely questionnable that they were watching UFC and the bar scene is not really encouraged either iirc. I do love me some UFC though. :D

  Hobbies post Witness-still feel guilty about the time and expense involved?

  my dear wife says she has a hard time investing time and money towards hobbies.

  my wife was born in to the organization.

  she says she still has a difficult time not feeling guilty about activities that would take one away from the preaching work, even though she has made her exit from the organization a long time ago.

  1925 BETH-SARIM.....

  using photoshop7 i created the image below....there are 13 elements, extracted from larger pictures, intergrated onto a beth-sarim background.

  used the gaussian blur tool, then adjusted results to match colors between each element.

  one of the effects i attemped was to make my artwork resemble watchtower artwok as close as possiable.. wish to use this image in a project....so, how'd i do?

  It's just too bad the rank and file don't relaly know about beth sarim anymore. It loses a lot of its embarrassment value when you are the first person to tell a JW about it.

  Free Virus Protection???

  i have had mcafee virus protection on this crappy computer of mine for the last year, which has now expired.

  some people have told me to use the free software available online as virus protection - i am a bit sceptical... does anyone do this?

  is it safe?

  I use Avast right now as it's the only one I found that runs on 64-bit Vista. I would recommend AVG though it takes far less memory to run. I found Norton to be overpriced crap that didn't even catch things the freeware did and ate a lot more memory.

  it's been interesting to read the various discussions that go on here particularly between those who 'believe' in a 'god' and those who don't.

  in my opinion when all is said and done it seems to come down simply to.
