  We All Have Our Stories - We Are All Survivors in Our Own Ways

  in attending the apostafest this weekend in south lake tahoe it became apparent to me that we all held a common bond in getting out of the jehovah's witnesses cult ; and yet many of us made our escape to freedom in different ways !

  some people stopped going to meetings cold turkey, like myself, something just clicks in you after the buildup over years of tension and abuse of justice - just couldn't take it anymore !

  other people do a slow gradual fade , some get dfed, or dissassociate, some even get their families out with them, some are the only members of their family who have exited the cult.

  Positive things that I have done in my life include getting a university education with honors, being in a long term supportive relationship, taking martial arts, doing REAL volunteer work, and adopting a kitty. I went by the philosophy of "fake it till you make it". I did not always feel stronger, powerful, outgoing or social -- but I keep making myself make the effort until I can claim the life I have always wanted. My first relationship wasn't the best but it helped me grow in so many ways as a person that my second never would have occurred without the first and for that I am thankful of both.

  It always bugged me at work that I can efficiently serve customers in 1-2 minutes while being friendly but it was the guys that spent 5 minutes leaning on the counter chatting holding up the line of people behind that ended up getting tipped. I always tip more when I get fast service than some lazy chatty brat! But apparently the world does not see it my way.

  I was "old" when I learned, about 10 :-p these days my five year old cousins are already learning to type in school.

  Well I don't have any children myself but I do recall back to that age and I was very precocious. I would tell her that you and her parents think very differently about life and god and are not able to agree on it. Then say that her parents do not want to see you because they don't agree with you and don't want to argue about it anymore. Doesn't get into dogma but does explain the crux of the matter.

  Nazi Attandants at the DC, any stories?

  i remember at the last dc in the bathroom their was an attendant and his job was to pass out one paper towl for each person after they washed their hands.

  i asked him for another because i wanted to blow my nose and he said "you have enough".

  again, another wake up moment for me.
