i went to the meeting for the first time in months tonight.
during the announcements the presiding overseer mentioned that the "find a brother" arrangement was being moved from wednesday nights to saturday afternoon.
what in the name of god is a "find a brother" arrangement?

Think of all the extra privileges brothers have. Think of how a sister needs to still respect a wordly head of the house. This is not a change for them, it reflects the same disgusting inequality they have always stood for.
at my place of business which i own, i have discovered that the local jw's have taken to dropping in magazines, brocheres etc.
the staff accept them just to be polite but arn't interested.
but you know the deluded jw's... my business has quickly turned into someones magazine route!.
Put a no religious soliciting sticker on your door. :)

yes, i know i was brought up as a jw so my view is probably distorted.
but why as an adult, would you want to receive gifts that you neither need nor want from people who cant really afford to give them?.
i love xmas from the point of view of spending a whole day eating, talking and a little drinking with loved ones.
The solution to unwanted presents -> a family of inlaws that ask you to list what you want. The solution to going broke -> the other side oft he family being JWs.

i remember the good old days when jwzone, greatcrowd, purelanguagenetwork, sister soup, and witnessworld were around.
there were quite a few of us that managed to gain membership to those boards and tried to "witness" and would copy/paste over here..
Lol not that I know of but it's been a long time since I would even look for something like that...probably almost 7 or 8 years.
by my "pioneer calculations" way back in 1992 we pioneers decided that the "big a" would have to come by at least 2005. now i can't believe it's 2010!!!!!!!!!!

im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??
it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!
I celebrate the modern Coca-Cola hallmark Christmas with all it's commercial pop culture aspects. If the origins of a holiday require researching it probably doesn't mean the same thing any more. Heck even the meanings of words change over time.

i called my parents excited to be having them come out for thanksgiving break.
in the conversation my dad (not a jw) brought up that michael jackson's glove just sold for $300,000 while a recently found first edition copy of darwin's on the origin of species sold for only $100,000.
They have been sensitized to act like that it's like a button.
even as a witness we always used to decorate for fall with pumpkins, goards, mums, candles and other natural things.
now that i can decorate for halloween, i realize that i really prefer to stick to the natural stuff.
i will have a few homemade hallween things when the time comes but for now i've decked my apartment out in fall goodness.
I love your decorations! Silk autumn leaves (wedding supply store) would be a perfect nature based compliment to the theme you have there.
For my own decorations I have pine cones, nuts of all types, a branch of dried oak leaves with acorns attached from last year, orange candles, dried flowers, pumpkins and gourds, with fall leaves.
