I like to think I "matured up" somewhat in the way people sober up. I realized what a stupor my life would be forever and I decided that was time enough to make changes.

I outgrew the "truth"
by micheal inas the saying goes, "you only live once".
with that, after being a witness for 15 years it was just time to move on to something else.. .
yes i believe the witnesses do not have the ultimate truth as they believe they do, which helped in my decision to move on.

Sending "Love" from the Platform
by RubaDub ini have never been able to understand the "the brothers from xyz cogregation are sending their love" at the end of a public talk.. it always seemed to occur when the speaker was from a far-away place.
then, we all have to clap when he rhetorically asks "do you want to send our love to them?".
they never seem to do it when it is a near-by congregation .. only one far away.

Another one of those quaint practices that seems almost normal when you are "in" but completely absurd when you are "out". And then there is the fact that we clap for assembly parts but not congregation parts. I mean heck a public talk is just as long.. And yet clap for visiting speakers, sometimes the C.O, or new students. Doesn't EVERYONE deserve our equal gratitude and appreciation. Or at least that is what they like to tell us..

How do some of these rumours start?
by joenobody inblondie's comments in the thread about jim penton's upcoming book got me thinking.
she was talking about the jw rumour mill.
i've been out (dfed) since 1995 and have only set foot in a kh for my brother's wedding.

Definitely the rumors fly more about people who have left the organization. Maybe the ones who are in need to convince themselves how "evil" those who leave are in order to feel better about their own misplaced loyalty.

What's your favorite JW word or phrase?
by Sara Annie inin a minimus moment, i find myself interested in knowing which buzz-words and phrases in jw publications stand out the most to you?
when i read wt literature, i constantly find myself astounded by how transparently cultish the language is.
in an earlier, unrelated thread, i said the following: .

"Arrangement" "Field service arrangement" "shepherding arrangement" "theocratic ministry school arrangement" Nothing like having someone "arrange" your whole life for you, makes is sound like that is the only way to go about things.

Were Most Of The Elders "On The Ball" In Your Congregation?
by minimus ini think most of the elders relied on the "smart ones" to help them out.
my experience was that there was probably 2 or 3 "sharp ones".
the rest were dopey!

Not necessarily dumb, just naive, misinformed, or uninformed. They were knowledgeable in their area(s) perhaps but overall had really no understanding about how the world really works.

How Mormons deal with "apostate literature"
by Dogpatch intips to keep your testimony from toppling.

?the reason people fall out of the church is the same reason they fall out of bed: they?re not in properly!?

The more I study, the more I serve, the more I immerse myself in the Church and gospel, the more true it all becomes!
Amazing how much easier it is to believe one point of view if you devote yourself to it and refuse to consider any contrary opinions.

Please Explain this to all Newbies....Why
by codeblue inwhy do we need to be referred to as newbies?
how does that "labeling status" get achieved, moving up to the top of the labeling process?
and why does the labeling exist at all?

Did or does being a JW cause a person to be immature?
by gentlesoul ini have noticed that most jehovahs witnesses and many who have left are very immature.
could you please give me your oppinion on that.
do they go as far as controlling your maturity ?

A lot of times they aren't forced to think about their decisions. And of course there is a great deal of stunted social skills as well. I wouldn't necessarily say they all come across as immature, but inside there are definitely some gaps there. Although I believe the leaving process forces them to gain a certain level of maturity in the process, especially if there were extenuating circumstances involved.

Well I feel your pain. I imploded a database (dropped the whole thing instead of just one table) but since the diagnostic still says it's "function properly" (even thought I can't communicate with it at all) I don't get any tech support. Oh and I don't have the permissions to reacreate it myself.
