That may be so about quoting the scriptures, but it's sort of a prerequisite to feel that the bible is a truthful document in order to beleive in a god talked about within it. So is it uncanny for someone to quote science and then the bible in the same idea? I don't think so. If someone rejects the teachings of the bible, why are you talking about religeon base upon it to begin with?

Did a 'major-event' cause you to join/leave JW?s?
by cyberguy init seems to me, many people become jw?s after a major event in their lives.
perhaps it is the death of a loved-one, such as a father, mother, child, wife, or husband.
on the other hand, it?s also my observation that a "major-event" often causes an active jw to rethink what they are doing with their life, whether they are really in the "truth," as jw?s call it.

As a reply to the two previous posts before my previous one.
I don't feel his remarks were condescending. Personally I feel myself ready for any information. Since my brain catalogs all information and time needed before I could understand will pass in time.
About the violence in religeon it comes from defending something you beleive strongly in. Undermining someone's primary thought processes usually involves a great deal of anger and hostility. So it probably is the fact the many JW's cling harder to their faith than many other religeons that they more readily become defensive in the face of opposition. Where-as someone like myself who's open to the concept that the entire model of my thinking is completely devoid, I can have my beliefs deteriorated and be completely fine with it. It's the strong mind that is able to readjust it's thinking in the face of logical paradox.
I also never take individuals to represent an entire group. It would seem the american JW is alot more problematic than outside countries, or even other ethnic group congregations, such as the spanish. The feeling of family permeates alot more in those people and also you actually feel like they are concerned about your well being. It says in the bible not everyone calling upon the lord's name would be delivered from wrath in the time of the end. That could include alot of people in the same organization as one another. Those who make it might end up people who hardly know anything about the bible, you can't draw conclusions on that one.
Besides, my mom is a JW and is probably the most reasonable person I've ever dealt with. If I had to pick anyone to represent a model JW it'd be her. I on the otherhand represent the model... ummm... yeah. I represent something, but it's origins cannot be disclosed nor can it's name.
Anyway, it's completely obvious that mankind cannot serve god correctly, so we all have to be willing to be set straight and be undermined.

I can see why the bible calls so much attention to love. If you applied the model of worship to how you look at a family with loving parents, you almost feel indebted to them for alot of what they would give you. So in turn you feel the need to make up for it by doing them favors. Unfortunately that isn't how many view the worship of god. They take traditions and theories and cause them to be facts and figures. For example, aliens, the bible does not give any information of E.T. life other than spirit creatures. Does that mean that there aren't other beings in our physical universe? Perhaps Edam and Ave were created on Seltara III in another solar system and they are perfect people. Would the existance of another planet of being be contrary to the bible? Yet if I say aliens to a religeous zealot, I will get pummeled with alot of disbelief. That's when programming takes over. When there is no supporting logic or information yet you continue on as if there is. Biblically we are supposed to have accurate knowledge, derive our own conclusion and associate with others not to derive the same thoughts, but to derive the same outcome. Therefore any organization that perpetuates concepts of blindly walking, just because I said so, or that's just the way it is ideas, they are against the concept of accurate knowledge.
Anyway, I feel that no religeon on the planet has any possibility of getting the concepts of an existing deity correctly. Even biblically many of god's chosen people made plenty of mistakes in their worship. Should we criticize and break down an individual or realign their path? Is it hate that heals a people or is it love and patience? Me personally I don't care enough about other people to hurt or heal ^_^ (I love when I contradict myself).
On another subject, anyone notice how offended people get when you call them a hypocrit? It's like the most offense word in the dictionary for many. I don't mind if anyone calls me one, I probably am one. If I wasn't, I wouldn't be me (or something).

This is extremely interesting. Apparently they discovered that the brain has a good chance of using Quantum mathematics to derive some informations. If this is true it throws my deterministic reality out the window. This definitely pleases me greatly and I have a newfound hope. Thanks for pointing out the probablistics in nature and special thanks to google for your nice search engine. I definitely am less depressed about life now.

I'd like to read more on this quantum theory. I really hate the concept that the state of anything at a certain point can be exactly the same given the same origins. Then I can get out of this perpetual depressive state.

Yeah, "thugs" do. Tupac even wrote a song "I wonder if heaven has a ghetto". Many of my partners from when I was a JW were ex gangsters and thugs. I think hard life makes you question more things relating to the nature of life. A man who has a happy existence has little need to question why life is so miserable.
As for death, like I said in another topic, it's only a complete circle of birth. From nothing we spawn, to nothing we go. What is the fear, shame, and discontent in that? Many people ask "It is a grand thing that I exist". Yet if we never existed we wouldn't have thought in order to care whether we did. Sometimes I wonder if that is why some beleifs adopted the concept of eternal punishment, simply dying isn't really a punishment in itself since you can conquer death by simply dying.

What book(s) are you reading?
by gaiagirl ini just finished a 'historical novel' titled "confessions of a pagan nun", by kate horsley.
this is a story about a woman who grew up in ireland during the late 5th and early 6th century, at the time when christianity was beginning to displace the older pagan customs.
the story tells how gwynneve is raised according to the beliefs of her ancestors, and the conflicts she experiences as she gradually comes into contact with those claiming to represent the christian faith.

I think the best way to test that theory is to become the element of the destruction. If yo really want to know if someone will step in, do it and find out. Destroy the o-zone layer, kill everyone, etc.

a closed mind, a requirement?
by peacefulpete ingalatians opens with the direction to not listen to opposing religious views.
it goes so far as to say that even if they (ostensibly paul and his party) or an angel from heaven presents another opinion, they must refuse to listen even then condemning the messenger as an enemy.
ironically this very obstinance is condemned among the jews in the bible, when they supposedly refused to listen to the new direction from the christians, jesus and even the angels who according to the story announced this new faith's arrival.

It's ironic how much JW influences everyone. On the outside of the religeon and it seems everyone still can't help but look in. I don't beleive anything anymore. If I'm imperfect then no matter what I do I'm going to get it wrong. Even that fact that I don't feel like striving for inevitability is wrong biblically. Therefore I cast off my flesh and accept that I am nothing more than dust attempting to alter the coarse of other dust on this dust filled rock we call a planet trying to prove that I'm more than dust. Eventually I will die and become dust once again so other dust can feed on the dust that sprouts from me. That is all life is.
