... and as I was filling out the application there was a line that said:
"Please note: If you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses, you MAY NOT join OUR organization!"
Ha, ha, just kidding!
But yes, I joined because I've been wanting to go swimming and they're the only place in town to do it indoors. The JW rumblings inside my DNA kept reminding me of the evilness of such organizations like the Young Man's Christian Organization. What tripe! And no bolt of lightening struck me down as I signed on the dotted line.
My membership card is a keychain tag with big YMCA letters on it. Uh oh!
I wonder if the JW's are still anti-YMCA (when'd that QFR come out, in the 60s? Anyone know?
And I've been getting the best swimming workouts for a week now.
One more step at integrating into normal society. Congratulations to me.

Have you self-published through Lulu.com?
by alias ini am working on a book project (non-jw) that will have both illustrations and text and i am interested in self-publishing.
i checked out lulu.com and it looks extremely easy to do it once the manuscript is ready to go.
have you used a pod like lulu?

Thank you, Nathan. Books are the way we share pieces of ourselves, and I know many a former-JW has much to say!
Monophonic, thank you too for your thoughtful input. The book I'm working on is not JW-related and is more of a compilation of some humor writings and art I've done over the years, which is why I'm looking at self-publishing. Who knows, maybe I should be thinking Far Side!
Hortensia, your input is invaluable as well. I am a graphic artist and have noted your recommendations. Thank you everyone, your input is most appreciated!

OnTheWayOut,
When I began my fade 11 years ago I discovered an amazingly, deep, creative part of me longing to be expressed. I've been working with that part of me ever since, giving voice to it, expressing it, playing with it -- and with delightful results -- which is how I arrived here.
"I am starting to shake the bitterness from my exit from JW's and the bitterness was driving the bookwriting. So now, I don't know if I will get the passion to finish the book and ever publish."
It sounds like you already have the passion. You simply need to choose to channel that energy into your creative outlet of writing. Why not just write a page a day or a week or a month and see where it goes. Do it for you. At the very least it may be therapeutic.
Good luck!

So the "interviews" as usual are designed to support the current viewpoint of the organization. Highlight the negative to support "it's bad." Why don't they ever have a balanced "other side" scenario? Because they want you to come to their own conclusion and do what they say.
What about all of the degreed professionals Bethel happily snaps up (dentists, lawyers, doctors, etc.) and you wouldn't have a chance in !% to get in if you weren't "specially skilled"? How does anyone in attendance not see the MANipulation?
...and who let them be judge over if higher education will help them better serve God? Can I say if you like orange?

Are you self-published? Have you used a POD like Lulu? Pros/cons? Any tips or good resources for a publishing newbie?
Will this thread become a page-turner?

JWs and Love towards their families
by R.F. inthis is something that just popped in my mind suddenly.. but i was thinking about over the years the many comments of jws about loved ones.
for instance, one sister was speaking of her disgust with her children not accepting the "truth".
she gladly tells anyone of what she told them; that if they don't accept it before armageddon that it's too bad.

It's amazing how differently we can see things from the outside perspective.
"But she also said that it doesn't bother her because Jehovah won't allow her to miss them."
If you replace "Jehovah" with "the loaf of bread" you truly see how the sense of personal responsibility is so easily and heartlessly transferred elsewhere. And self-deception, denial. What authentic nurturing human would not be bothered by such a prospect? One full of fear and selfish longing. How could this person claim to be part of a loving brotherhood when they heartlessly admit "too bad" her children will be destroyed. She's betting on her emotions being numbed by a loving god. (How many ironic things are in that line of reasoning alone?)
Today, for the first time, I'm actually nauseated by how soul-less some JWs become. And their twisted reasoning on why they "wouldn't be bothered" is frightening.

Stolen Watchtower art
by needproof in.
one is taken from the liveforever book, the other from stern magazine, but which one come first?
-
alias
"It is possible to use art from another source with permission, and not necessarily for a fee. I wonder if this investigation went farther what the other magazines involved would say? I haven't read the website...did Stern say it was a "steal"?"
Along with Blondie's thoughts, this could be a stock photo image or a "rights managed" type of thing where a fee is paid for usage, unlimited or per number. This is not uncommon in the publishing and advertising worlds. A Google search for "stock photos" will give you all the background info on how this works.
