The role of the Home Bible Study arrangement in JW brainwashing
by MrMonroe ini've just started reading "year of doom, 1975: the inside story of jehovah's witnesses" by english author j.c. stevenson.
it was published in 1967 as basically a memoir of his years in the dubs, including time as a pioneer, and an explanation of the methods used by them to make the organisation grow.. it's not the best "insider" book i've written, but there is a section i've uploaded below that makes some interesting points about the home bible study procedure and why it is so effective at turning interested people into baptism candidates.
reading through this, i see myself back in the mid-80s sitting there getting led, week by week, into the trap.. this section is from chapter 2, "the seed is watered" in which he explains the typical process following a few return visits.. .

Do You Feel Somewhat Liberated When You Talk About Your JW Past?
by minimus ini do.. when i tell people that i was a witness, nobody can believe it!
i enjoy telling them why i left the religion, the harm they cause, and the benefits of being out of it.. do you express yourself in this way too or is it only me?.

I'm too deep in my extracting process and have too many active JWs in my inner circle to experience that clean-cut freedom feeling. Although I feel free-er.

Disfellowshipping Offense
by Had To Go inso i went to my sister's wedding this past sunday, which happened to be smack dab in the middle of a church service.
my all faithful husband told me it was a dfing offense and that he was obligated to tell the elders that i was going to a church.
i really could care less about the actual act of being df it is the fact that my husband felt the need to "turn me in".

Isn't it just crazy that we even need to have a conversation like this? I remember following the lead of my parents and NOT going into a church for my (non-JW) aunts's service when she died, and sitting out in the car with my JW family while others went inside to pay their respects. It felt wrong, so wrong.
That we can't act with our own conscience in these matters is just mind blowing. Having a hubby turn you in is even worse.

Young people, you can die if you do not progress in the truth and become baptized.
by garyneal inthis is what the guest speaker was saying at my wife's hall yesterday.
she and i was babysitting our niece and since she had three kids going to the hall with her (including my two daughters) i figured i'd go with her to help out.
they were rambuctious and wild to say the least.. while i was in the hallway with my youngest daughter, i continued to listen to the speaker talk.

That's why I was baptized at 16.
