How many of you gave up a college scholarship?
by codeblue inhow many of you gave up a college scholarship to appear "spiritual"?
jt's thread about "homegrown lawyers" and the wtbs willingly sending certain ones to college started me thinking about that question.
i know i for one, relinquished that scholarship to show how "spiritual" i was at 18. .

Actally, it was because of the WT that I've gotten scholarships and grants. In a twisted ironic fate, delaying school has given me a free ride. Since I'm now married with a child I'm considered an independent student. I filled out my FAFSA 2 years ago and I've been going to school for free ever since. Now, I'm almost 25 and I have about 2.5 years to go but just because tuition is free does not justify the fact that I did put off going to college when I was younger.
I would rather be $40K in debt and have my good job now than struggling full time to support my family and going to college at the same time. Plus, I missed the whole living on campus wild party scene, bums me out.

WTBS attitude towards vegetarians ...
by El blanko in.
having flirted with meat off and on through my life, but mostly conforming to the vegetarian standard (due to the obscenity for the most part that is the meat industry) - i noticed when serving with the society, that i came under fire from the brothers.. my moral arguments about cutting down on meat consumption based around the factory farming methods were cast aside and often sneered at.. "well god gave us the right to eat meat" was the usual line i had to swallow down.. have any of you guys faced the same situation?

I was a vegetarian JW for awhile and many in the congregation thought it was a good idea, you know me, just getting ready for the new system. However, I think the main reason there aren't many JW vegetarians is time and then money. It takes more time to plan out a vegetarian diet and some time more money to buy the food that is required. Those are two luxuries you usually don't have as a JW, plus Jeh. is going to fix everything in the near future, so why bother. Eat that steak for tomorrow it will all be over

Just As A Matter Of Curiosity..........
by hillary_step injust as a matter of curiosity i was wondering if any of you know of anybody who has read raymond franz' 'crisis of conscience' and who actually remained a jw?
i have sent and lent this book to a number of people within the wts, even a co, all of whom left eventually.
one person remained due to domestic issues, but resigned from all his duties and remains as such.

Having read C of C and other books like it, I can say it may help but I don't think any book can change your attitude or mind for that matter. For me, change came from within, that which made me leave in the first place before knowing anything, UN, new light, etc. I just knew the JW thing wasn't right and C of C only helped me confirm my doubts.

What's your basic attitude?
by seattleniceguy ini think that if i had to describe my basic attitude toward life, the universe, and everything in one sentence, it would be this:.
generally, and on reflection, life is better today than it was yesterday.. very anti-thetical to the wt view of things, i know.

JW's and pets
by SuperMommy in.
does the wts have any rules...even unsaid implications...on pet ownership.
i have been hearing conflicting thing.
-
Atilla
Well, I know in the past the WT has said that a husband can not be DF'd for bestiality, so they must be ok with pet ownership, everyone needs an outlet

here's a link to some great advice I got........

Chevy,
good link
I think my parents are beginning to realize that no one in their congregation is going to help them and my parents are actually trying to move closer to me and away from our old KH. For one, everyone is either getting old in their KH or belongs to a family clique that may have 30 or more members in it. No so with my parents, it's just them and that's it. Also, I believe they have been politically damaged by the fact that both me and my brother have left, thus I think their so called dub friends may feel they get what they deserve.

Speed Limits
by Abaddon ini had to drive about 600km (370 miles) to hamburg and back again yesterday on business.. for those of you that don't know, large parts of the german network of autobahns (freeways) have no speed limit.. of course, those who say german's don't have a sense of humour won't have though in detail about having a network of two-lane dual carriageways with no speed limit.
a very funny idea.. it was still a pretty good average speed (about 135km/h, 83mph) for the part of the journey in germany, and we , but as i got up to 220km/h (135mph) at various points and cruised over 160km/h (100mph) a lot, if they'd been a third lane it would have been a lot higher.
one side effect is once you are back down to normal highway speeds (120km/h) it feels like you're doing 50k/mh.

I actually haven't gotten one ticket since leaving the org. For one, I'm not in a hurry to get to the KH or get home for that matter, (yes, I actually got a ticket on my way to meeting once, kinda of embarrassing because other dubs saw me pulled over) and 2nd, I drive a Toyota Camry automatic now and not a Saab Turbo like I used too.

Well, I would say at least $100 if not more and I know they have donated a lot more in the past especially when my dad was in charge of accounts. If there was any deficit for receits vs. books, he most likely made it up. In addition, my mom never got a real full time job over the last thirty years so she could aux. pioneer and play the role of an elder's wife. In addition, I just recently found out that my dad didn't get his doctorate and become a professor like he originally intended because of my mom and the whole religion thing.
So, I would say that they may be screwed when it come to retirement.
As for my child, I have laid down guidelines stating that I never want them to talk about relgion to him, but I still have my doubts.
