Yep, you can run into idiots anywhere these days. It just goes to show how close we all are really to the edge and how any minute we could just freak out and start killing everyone in sight. I'm glad to see you remained calm.
Don't you guys have auto pay at the pump over there?

One word-microwave. I did notice when I over there in Europe and also from your picture that everything seems to be smaller in the kitchen but I guess your appliances still get the job done.

A Rural Trend?
by Dan-O ini was talking with one of my brothers recently, and he commented on something he's noticed while travelling.
he noticed that a lot of kingdom halls seem to be popping up in rural areas.
i know that a town in the next county built one outside of town a couple of years ago, and the kh in my own town has a 'for sale' sign on the lawn.

Yes and no maybe. Perhaps, small town areas are more friendly to dubs because people there are already in a more spiritual state of mind. Of course econcomics do play a role and it would only make sense to build a KH on the edge of a large town or community where property is cheaper.
Although, I do remember hearing brothers who were on the regional building committee talk about the need for choosing more high profile property so as to be seen by the community. What was going on, especially here PA was that local brothers were getting cheap out of the way land and then building the KH there when the closest town or any real sizable population was miles away. Gee, I guess the fear was that they would be seen as some crazy introverted cult who wanted to keep away from the community.
Having said all that, I do know that my old KH which is in a very rural area, is having attendence problems because most of the younger ones, myself included have moved on to find a job. So, for awhile, the rural congregation may work if it has a lot of families with younger children. However, once these children get older, they may very likely move on for better prospects. They may not stop being a dub but they won't being going to their rural congregation anymore. Plus, as I noticed with my rural territory, people are more religious but more polarized in their beliefs, thus unwilling to hear any new ideas wether they be good or bad.

Welcome, have fun and good luck with college but be careful. You could become so hooked that you spend more time here than working on your studies. I know that has happened to me many days, and I end up cramming just to get my homework done.
If you can't change how your parents and friends feel about you, try not to worry and rather focus your energy on yourself. Feel good about yourself and live your life to the fullest, that is the best defense. Once your family sees that your happy and sucessful, they may just come around.

Peak Oil
by DanTheMan in.
i don't know why i read stuff like this, but i just can't seem to stay away from it.. sometimes i really really really wish i could figure out a way to end my life without hurting my family.
i do not want to witness what the next 20 years is going to bring.. http://www.totse.com/en/politics/economic_documents/lifeaftertheoi172879.html

When you say that you think peak oil production occurred in 2000 and has gone down every year since, would this take into account the global recession for the last 3 years that we are now just starting to come out of. The recession could easily explain why oil production has gone lower due to lower demand.
If we should get rid of our pets, can we eat them?

Back from the Memorial......Special Announcement at the end....
by ScoobySnax inthe special announcement read at the end was an invite for any interested ones (tm) to ask if they wanted a bible study.....and that a special meeting will be held next sunday in all the congregations worldwide, and an invite was given for all to attend.
i loved going and was good to see all the brothers and sisters again, the po who gave the talk made a bee line for me straight after the closing prayer, straight off the platform (i had to stand as there were no seats) and asked to speak to me, and directed me to the back of the hall, i thought here we go......jc convening shortly......but no he said the wt society in london had contacted him as i'd wrote them asking for the magazines, and he would be happy to drop by and had done, but never found me at home.
so we arranged a date for him to call next week.. the hall was packed, and from my standing point i had plenty of opportunity to have a scan about, despite being horrified that their were brothers there who were betting looking than even me ( in my newly bought outfit!

I realized you are probably not concerned with your dress and the dress of others, but I was mostly thinking about dress in general and how it can play a role in meeting attendence and how people view themselves in the congregation.
Now, were you serious about spending hours in reading WT literature? More power to you if you can.

Seems like a waste to me but to each their own I guess. I for one know that I could never go back, like trying to put clothes on that don't fit anymore, an impossibilty. Even if I could go back and the slate was wiped clean and no one prejudged me for not going in three years and I was totally exonerated with all my "prestige" back, it still wouldn't matter. I wouldn't last longer that the first meeting before I told someone off and I would be right back to where I am now which is a good place.
Seems silly that you had to get all dressed up and worry about what other people were wearing, I know dressing up is the standard but why can't people just come as they are. I remember trying to get my Bible students to come to the memorial and then worrying about what they were going to wear, no wonder no one ever came. Well, atleast you had a good time.

8th Continent Soy Milk and lots of M&M's. I wish I could eat even healthier but since I don't have very much time between school, family, and work, I often just eat whatever I can find. I hope to one day to become vegetarian, perhaps even vegan. Hey, it's not like I'm going to live forever or something, so I must start taking care of myself.
