Thinking of becoming a Witness again and my reasons for doing so :(
by reniaa ini've been a faded jw for 10 years i left because of my failed first marriage, i'm no hypocrite and realised i had left completely so i embraced the world and dived in, only christmas and birthdays i could not get into, they were too foreign to me having never celebrated them, like if i suddenly tried to do ramadan or something like that.. 1/ all the criticisms of the people in the truth you say on here, i've found in the world, warts and all only in the world nothing holds them back from being utterly horrible to you.. 2/ i got stabbed by a worldly boyfriend, i got married 2 times of my own choosing to men outside the truth, the first smoked and was an alcoholic, the second gambled every penny we had and defrauded me out of money after we separated, 2 divorces later i am currently pregnant and a single mum since current boyfriend decided kids was to much of a responsibility and he needed his freedom and i was 'too selfish to expect him to give up his life'.. 3/ parents-in-law!
i have been shunned by them as equal to anything you accuse witness families of and for the silliest of reasons, i had a disabled son and his grandparents said they wanted nothing to do with him because they didn't want to become attached in case he died.. 4/ i miss the honest friendships of the truth, i had friends of all ages from 14 to 80 years old and they genuinely cared for me, many trying to keep me in the faith a long time after i left but i was determined to fade so moved away completely, but i find friendships in the world so shallow in comparison and very hard to sustain :( i've never been a drinker and sometimes thats what friendship means you being a companion for them to goto pub with.. 5/ my recent boyfriend was in a christian religion, i thought why not find out about it, harvest churches if you ever heard of them, unfortunately it still hasn't stop him leaving me pregnant and alone and when i said to him how does he clear that with god, he replies "as long as i repent it doesn't matter" it's like he has a "get out of jail free card" for any wrong-doing in the bible, this is so alien to me and my witness trained conscience.. 6/ i recently out of frustration tried looking into atheism and joined their forums, it wasn't fun, they are as bombastic and arrogant as their religious counterparts can be from any religion, they make a religion out of not believing in god, it's very weird they talk of saving people from believing in god and offer nothing to replace it.
they said to me "be happy you are in reality now and enjoy it" and i thought "well if this is reality i've had enough of it".

I know how you feel (I think). Even though I've been hurt by things that have happened to me in the "truth" I know that that is just part of life. My experience is that the imperfect people in the "truth" are for the most part more of the type people I trust and respect. Go for it!

What horrible life said is what you should do. Sounds like you may save your FIL's life and wind up putting a criminal in Jail. This is something you have to move on quickly because to wait will probably be the death of your FIL.

Regarding "The End Is So Close" Thread
by senora ini just had another take on that thread, so i decided to start a new one.. i've been going to the meetings off and on lately, so for the ones of you who haven't been in a while, you would not believe how much the the borg is constantly repeating that phrase over and over again.
its like they are trying to spook everyone out.
so everyone is constantly saying that phrase over and over, and i mean everyone.

Even if I was not a Bible believer I know enough to say that the party is almost over. Please consider the information at this link. http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/ Take your time it is a long read and has links within to establish that it is not just some nut case yelling that the sky is falling. Think deep and hard about the implication of what is said.
God Bless.

Of course, everyone is free to believe whatever they want, but the Bible account itself is pretty explicit in its meaning. Believe it 100 percent or not at all, but don't tell me it means something other than what it says.
PrimateDave, you need to be a little more open minded and not so dogmatic. Maybe you are misunderstanding what the Bible is really saying. Consider the following:
"In view of the evidence now available, therefore, there is no substantial basis for doubt as to the authenticity of the approximate time of the Noachian flood as indicated in Scripture.
As to the second issue, that of the extent of the flood, we can recognize that nothing is beyond the power of the Creator of heaven and earth. But the real question is: What does the Biblical account actually say? Does it require a global deluge, affecting every part of the planet?
The Biblical and Mesopotamian Flood traditions correspond closely, although it cannot be shown that the Biblical account was derived from the others or vice versa. They give evidence of having a common origin and speak of the same event. For this reason it is possible, perhaps probable, that the Bible, too, like the Mesopotamian traditions, speaks of a regional catastrophe, using the Hebrew word erets in the sense of “land” or “area” rather than “earth”. That the Biblical account of the Flood in Genesis 6-8 may be understood in this way is demonstrated, for example, by Professor Franz Delitzsch, a leading conservative Bible scholar in the 19 th century, in his work, A New Commentary on Genesis, Vol. 1, pp. 222-282. (This commentary was originally published in German in 1887).
It should be emphasized that the Bible most commonly uses the word erets in the sense of “land”, and more rarely in the sense of “earth” (= the globe). In the Theological Dictionay of the Old Testament, Vol. 1, p. 393, Dr. Magnus Ottosson explains: “It is not always easy to determine whether erets means ‘earth’ or ‘land’ in a given instance.”
It is interesting to observe that Jesus, in speaking of his second coming as an unexpected event, compared it not only with the coming of the Flood, but also, in the very same passage, with the destruction of Sodom. And just as he said that the Flood “destroyed them all,” he also said of Sodom that the fire and sulphur from heaven “destroyed them all.”
The crucial point of the Genesis account as well as the references by Christ and Peter, is that the human race was subjected to a watery catastrophe and that humanity survived only as a result of God’s provision through Noah. (Matthew 24:39) If, as seems evident, the human race in Noah’s day was confined to a relatively limited geographical area—and that must have been the case if all people were able to be aware of the preaching of Noah (2 Peter 2:5) and be cognizant of what he was doing in the construction of the ark—then the flooding of that entire area would constitute a flooding of the world (the human sphere and man-centered order) or kosmos of that time."
Bottom line is that the Bible was referring ONLY to the part of the earth inhabited by mankind.
Thank you.

Unlike jaguar bass, I do believe in creation and the Bible but I also believe the Earth is several billion years old. Life in my opinion has been around for millions of years although human beings only six thousand years or so.
I believe in the Bible account of a world flood but believe that only the world of mankind which at the time lived entirely in the Mesopotamia region was completed covered with water. Scientific evidence for example shows that creatures still alive today such as kangaroos, duck billed platypuses, etc only lived in areas like Australia. No remains of these creatures have ever been found in the Mesopotamian region. These creatures did not die in a flood because the portion of the world in which they lived was not flooded by a global deluge.

Tired of the Hypocrisy
You say your MIL is trying to poison your FIL. Not saying this couldn’t be true but do you have real evidence or could it be your FIL is paranoid?
