Why Is Alcohol "Good" and Marijuana "Bad"?
by FMZ inup until a short time ago (a couple of years maybe), insufficient research had been done on either of these drugs to say what the long term effects were.
only recently has it come out that certain kinds of alcohol (red wine etc) can reduce blood pressure.. so, with this in mind (the fact that they could actually be as bad or harmless as each other), why the heck is marijuana illegal and alcohol fine?.

If you consider the intent regarding the use of both, smoke a blunt and your intention is to get blasted, in fact the higher the better, that is usually the objective.
With alcohol, however, you have to choose to get wasted, which when comparing the degree of intoxication, weed is probably the prefered high, no having to do the stick your head in the toilet thing, but its kinda' like cheating. Your allowed to get the greatest intensity of intoxication with the least ammount of visible short term damage to the body. Alcohol intoxication has to be metered out, often in large quantity to produce the same type of high sought when smokin' a spliff.
Right there is one of the greatest differences, you have to choose to get as high with alcohol, where with weed, unless your smokin' some bad $#!+, that high is the only objective but if your smokin' some really, really good $#!+, its usually the only outcome.
The only other problem regarding smokin' a spliff comes from the almost insane damage that comes from ingesting such a thing, smoke at such an intense degree of heat, 100's of btu's, who knows, holding that smoke as long as you can, having your bodies natural inclination to expel that kind of energy refused, while you vainly attempt to not cough your brains out, to me just doesn't have the same appeal any longer.
Alcohol, however, is a much more reasonable response to an irrational solution, that being the need to take the edge off of the problems we face in this struggle here.

Though there are more scriptural pronouncements against drinking then there are that favor it, there are a select few that actually support it as above. There are, however no scriptural support for the blatant abuse that comes from improper and illicit use of drugs.

Were you ever a victim of the "JW STARE"?
by doodle-v inyou know what i'm talking about... .
for instance, if you go to a meeting and haven't been there for ages.
your stand up during the song and suddenly what seems like the whole cong gets afflicted with the jw stare.

Boy, that reminds me of the time while working in a group home, it became necessary to take one of the consumers to the local hospital. When we got inside, we had to stop at the security desk. At the desk was a sister I had known from my previous life as a JW, and although I was there on official business, she gave the most blatantly obvious stare of detest I will never forget, she would have preferred not to give any information or been obliged to say anything at all to me. I believe had I come in as a heart attack patient, she would've considered it as divine providence, and shuffled me out the back door to die.
Very disheartening having to deal with JW's from outside the KH in a professional atmosphere. They can't bridge the fact that there are times when you just have to disassociate yourself from being the person whos a Witness to being a human being who needs to show at best, the minimum in concern.

I've never had the stare at a meeting so much as I was seen at a local shopping mall by friends who hadn't seen me in about 8 years.
By then I had grown a full beard, and though they were gracious enough not to treat me as someone who'd just escaped a leper colony, there was the peculiar sense that they didn't quite know how to handle the situation.
We hugged and exchanged pleasantries, but it was clear that they were incredibly uncomfortable.

In all honesty, I know for a fact that it is coming, when that shall take place is a matter of constant question, but all signs indicate that it will come.
It however is up to us to always try to be in a position of preparedness in our hearts and souls, and know that Jehovah will always be just and merciful at the same time.

What Makes Some ExJWs So Angry & Others So Pleasant???
by minimus in.
from what i can see, it appears that some exwitnesses are either handling life outside the organization pretty well or not well at all.
i wonder if some persons simply, by nature are angry, unhappy persons while others are naturally good, "honest-hearted ones" that simply want to find some measure of happiness.

Hi Corvin, I do still have a difficult time of it as I try everyday to de-activate. Most times, all I can do is wait on the Grace of God to bring me to people who might assist me in my situations, also I look forward to helping others get beyond their difficulties in life and having the ability to share in their struggles. In even the most mundane of situations. Living outside the organization brings unique challenges in life. I was not raised in the truth, but spent most of my adult life in pursuit of it.
After finally making the grade, once in, it became almost as difficult to stay in.
Its almost like being in the Mafia. "You Can Check In Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave..." was a statement in the song "Hotel California", and for many on the inside it rings true. But at times it feels like eventhough I'm no longer there the influence of trying to be so nice still permeates through my pores to the degree that I feel so Un-authentic.
Its been required of me to tell a few folks off in my life and when they see that the always nice individual behind the screen, that comes out to sling the sword with words, they stand back in amazement as if having been visited by an alien.
But I've found even that to be a necessary evil. They no longer view my politeness as a reason to declare open season on me.

Its been my experience, that ex witnesses usually go all out, off the deep end that is, once becoming unglued from the KH.
Either turning to drugs or some sort of sordid path in a hail of self destructive behaviors.
I've known those who have gotten themselves killed within destructive relationships.
The guilt factor somehow must take a toll on the mind and spirit
Being taught that you're nothing other than a walking corpse just waiting to lie down, as it were, can do some pretty creepy things to the spirit of an individual.
It wasn't until I found this site that I always felt a morbid sense of Jehovah, looking over my shoulder, counting out my every sin on a tally sheet while I perpetually dig myself deeper in a black hole of no hope.
Also, it may be different for those who ware raised in the truth as opposed to those who learned of it from the outside. Being raised in the truth it would seem that many must partake to excess, of the forbidden fruits that were not allowed while under the thumb of the organization.
Those of us who come in from the world may already have had our fill of the sickness and degradation that exist just beyond our doorstep, choosing to carve out an even better life for ourselves and our families.
The Grace that belongs to God finds its way in the lives of those whom you would least expect to have it.
I believe that Grace to be existent and evident in my life, and I try to make the most of a difficult situation.
I never have been a truly angry person. Though one look at the movie anger management might start even the sugariest creamy coated of us to radically re-think our "Nicteyness" as an inverse opposite reaction to our betrayal of our truest of selves. That horrid, hatefully treacherous, self centered ego centric person that so quietly lurks in the dungeons of those of us, who either out of fear ourselves, or how the world may view us, gives us cause to squelch and silence that voice within.
