lynne f. stewart, an outspoken lawyer known for representing a long list of unpopular defendants, was convicted yesterday by a federal jury in manhattan of aiding islamic terrorism by smuggling messages out of jail from a terrorist client.
in a startlingly sweeping verdict, ms. stewart was convicted on all five counts of providing material aid to terrorism and of lying to the government when she pledged to obey federal rules that barred her client, sheik omar abdel rahman, from communicating with his followers.
Ms. Stewart, who is 65, faces up to 30 years in jail. The judge, John G. Koeltl, set her sentencing for July 15. Because she was convicted of a felony, she will be immediately disbarred. She remains free on bail, but cannot travel outside New York State.
We'll see what her actual sentence is on July 15, but meanwhile, she's been convicted on 5 counts. If she's guilty of aiding terrorism, then of course, I'm glad she was convicted.

But yes, since almost all topics were repeated weekly or monthly, after even the first couple of years, many talks were dull. And since less and less humor was permitted on the school, the meetings were generally pretty boring. Once in awhile there would be a gifted speaker who could liven up even an old outline; that was refreshing!

I wonder what I would say - but I haven't seen Witnesses at my door in years! I did run across one on the sidewalk a year or two ago, and she offered me the magazines. I recognized her, but not sure from which congregation; I didn't accept the magazines.
tomorrow i am puttting up some items from a 4th generation jehovah's witness family that i've known for years.
there are some pretty interesting items, and next week or so i'll be putting up some informants, mags from the 20s, 30s and 40s, etc.
but one thing caught my eye as i was reading the messenger of aug. 12, 1946. description:.

ok ... to me it's not totally related to jw life actually, i'm here because i'm used now to chat with people (you know like you go into a cafe and share wathever you want with whoever as this board is very rich and full for immediat interaction), support them, get some support ... i just like that ... also of course it's very interesting at the same time to follow some news and get information that i might spit back to my familly in time to wake them up .... what about you ?
