  i want a "normal" family.

  i want to go to my mom's home on christmas.

  as much as we all seem to want xmas big time - there's loads of non jw families for whom xmas heralds a sad and upsetting experience - xmas seems to bring all the bad anniversaries together for so many people :(

  i like the idea that peace had - make our own traditions - small things are the really big things in life ...

  My dad's response to the 'Cow' article......

  earlier in isp's thread, someone posted a reprint of a 1952 wt article likening women to cows.. i cut and pasted the whole article to my dad as well as my sister and a jw friend who continues to talk to me despite my being labeled apostate.. i did not change any words, only highlighted or bolded the sentences that i thought were especially outrageous.. i sent the article under the 'guise' of a lighthearted joke to this sister, and telling her she needs to do her wifely duty and bear children to her husband.. a few minutes ago, i received this response from my dad.. lisa, .

  i don't understand your purpose in sending me e-mails of a 40-year old article from the watchtower that i already have access to if i chose to spend the time to look it up.

  i can sense from your "subject" and the high-lighted portions of the article that your intent was perhaps to riducule the counsel, especially the comparison of a young girl to a cow.

  ps - i'm still upset about the 'new understanding' of the image of the beast falling into and ascending back out of the abyss - roman empire / third reich - cor that was page turning stuff of paperback proportions .... what new understanding!?!?!?!.

  when i say new, i believe it changed with the 'revelation' book ...

  i came into the 'truth' after home-studying the likes of the babylon book alone ... no witnesses called on me - i bought all the books i had (quite an extensive library) by post and not a single one called to follow up the slips ...

  sorry lisa - were you too 'enjoying' knowing the truth about the poor old image huh ?

  would jehovah's witnesses even exist today if they didn't have books and magazines to sell?.

  could they survive with just the bible and their faith in god?.

  isn't it phenomenal how much of the material they print is simply repeated information?.

  nah - would be too anti-confusing ... how could they replace 'questions from readers' because there would be nothing to print them in and how else would new light be transmitted ?

  Ever had a pointless argument?

  to make a long story short... nah, i'll just tell it the way it is.

  about 3-4 years ago, a @#$@ "brother" made a talk at an assembly.

  now, what made this talk so peculiar was that he used a quote from matt groening who apparently said "i'm sorry i created the simpsons, cause i see it has a bad influence on my children... this was to show that the "world" is very, very bad.. since i was (and still am) a devoted simpsons fan, i was completely shocked when i heard that "quote".

  oh mind, mind, mind ... did you not ever learn anything at the KH ? it doesn't matter what the worldlings print, it's what they meant that is important - groening obviously 'meant' that he regretted creating the simpsons - you have to read it in context you see ?

  i'm new here and i'm certain this topic has been discussed in the past so please forgive me for bringing it up.

  i've been inactive for about 3 years now and at this time would like to disassociate myself as i do plan to celebrate holidays and such.

  so i think it is to my advantage to da myself before i get dfed.

  almost the exact same question i asked these good folk here a coupla weeks ago

  i have almost decided not to da - mulan and jolebare put it more eloquently, but essentially - you'd be playing 'their game to their rules' - so i have more or less taken this advice and continue to stroll down the 'fading away' track

  the other thing is, the more i think about it and the more i talk about it - the more i realise that the watchtower holds no truths - at least no more so than any other religion

  it just dawned on me that the wbts is doing humanity a great service by not observing christmas and birthdays!

  wait, don't throw stuff at me yet - hear me out!

  imagine if the jws observed christmas and birthdays - what would they give as presents to their "wordly" relatives?

  i find this kinda post a little irritating - my pc is not the fastest around here - and when i eventually arrive expecting to read summat interesting - i get a link and not even a precis ... now thats rude ... ;)
