Share one or two interesting things about you we probably didn't know

we have such an interesting group of people from around the world on this board.

it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

* i have travelled into all 48 american states that are not named alaska or hawaii.. * for the past few years, i have had a slight walking impairment due to a form of arthritis known as ankylosing spondylitis.

My first week here ...thoughts

i have been hear for about a week now, and have not been is such a strange mental place since i was a witness.

it has been good, the programming still kicks in however, but i'm getting less and less afraid to reason with it.

i got my coc book yesterday.... i sat looking at it and thinking of all the years i avoided it, mischaracterized and marginalized it, w/out having any specific knowledge of what was actually in it.

Angel and BigD, reading your posts brings up memories...having gone through similar feelings and questioning, hurts and guilt.

Angel, you are lucky to have your husband to help you as you examine things more carefully. It is hard to wake up with the feeling you have no one, when your family and JW friends turn their back on you and you have no OTHER outside friends because you were taught not to. Many of us have been there. It will be hard to make friends at first ... us XJWs are somewhat socially stunted because of the guilt etc. It all will be a difficult process, but anything worth having ... including a new and better life ... is worth working for, eh?

BigD ... what an undertaking to free oneself from the cult with the added challenge of 3 sons and a missing spouse. What a priceless gift you are giving your kids. One thing I found in leaving was how hard it was to trust others. I bet in your shoes that is very hard too. Concentrate on your family like you are and just relish your freedom. There are many potential partners out there who you will come across that have weird baggage too! trust me on that one ... just focus on healing and your kids, you'll do fine.

I can't tell you how impressed I am with so many people I've come across on this and other boards. You are in good company. We've all been through so much. So many stories of strength and courage. Survivors are a very unique crowd.

with the shit going down on this board as of late i'd like to post something really good that happened to me lately.

i got my brother jw brother back.

back in 2001 of this same month i posted about letting jw relatives go because i got tired of the pain of hoping those relationships would be restored when it seemed impossible.

but much more believer-oriented (albeit anti-wt).. used to visit http://h2o.aimoo.com quite often but nothing much of substance discussed there lately.. and this one of course.. .

What I know of you and your values ... I think you should ask yourself what the impact will be to you and your emotions if you choose not to get involved. I think you should do what ever you need to do from the selfish viewpoint of how it will affect you and what you can live with ... longer-term.

What was that I said about some of us needing the strength of 10 Herculean men? peace to you m-c
