meh...I've been a drifter since day one.... don't think I've ever done a farewell thread ... just kinda follow many of my favorite people on out the door ... then drift back in from time to time to poke around for a bit.

Dog Owners -- Help!

in the short while that we have had him, my wife and i have fallen very much in love with him.
i haven't had a dog since i was a young lad of about 9 or 10 (i'm way older now) so i've long since forgotten how male dogs behave.

I have a biracial son, we lived in probably one of THE most tolerant cities in the US (Berkeley) and he has experienced bigotry throughout his life. So I agree it doesn't matter where you live, you're bound to experience racism in this country ... maybe by varying degrees ... but the beast is live, healthy and very ugly.
Being a mom I completely relate to your anger and frustration. Frankly, I don't believe eating an ice cream is going to make you feel any better. Nor do I think it is possible 'not to let it get to you'. It absolutely DOES get to you, it IS frustrating because there is so little you can do about it. There's no special equipment or measures you can take to protect your kid from this ... and what more does any parent want than to spare their children unhappiness? There's also a measure of guilt that I felt as the parent ... after all, dad and I were the ones who made the decision to have a biracial child in a racist society.
So, no real words of comfort to offer other than, I really do feel ya! hang in there. -
