Thanks for all of your very interesting responses. This subject just drives me up the wall. It is hard to fathom that a cult religion would really encourage it's members to lie or shut down instead of anwering a simple question. Have family members that were once honest people until they became JW's and now find it so easy to lie. I don't intend to offend anyone...just venting. Agnes

Why would someone who has disassociated allow their child to be taken to KH
by Agnes ini just read the listeners post about baptisms at the district conventions and didn't want to disrupt the thread.
i'm curious, why would someone allow their child to attend the kh or district convention and possibly be pressured into getting baptized?

Thank you all for your input. Let me start off by saying this was a question....not a judgement. Secondly, this is not the spouse taking the child, but the young woman's parents. The child is 7 years old and doesn't know what the risks are.
It just seems to me that if a person is dissallusioned enough to disassociate themselves, that they would certainly not want to risk their children becoming involved in a cult that might one day encourage them to shun them. I know that these situations are complex and I certainly don't know all of the details, but it bothers me nonetheless. Agnes

JW women focused on appearance!
by Sirona init really gets on my nerves.. jw women used to be always focused, as their number one thing, on appearance.
they could be crap at the rest of the jw stuff, but if they turned up at the meeting dressed nice, thin, long hair, looking nice, all was forgiven.
of course it was because of the misogyny (sp?

I thought they weren't supposed to be vain??? I even know an older couple and they both wear wigs in an attempt to look younger, but their hygeine is what really could use some attention.

What are some of the "Get rich quick businesses" the witnesses tried?
by mjarka911 ini remember many witness businesses that would pop up.
usually they would say "i'll just offer it to the friends to get started, then when it takes off i can pioneer".
it was usually one after the other for the same people.

I will not share a meal with you but can you give me some money
by tyler m ini had to come here and post about this.
my parents who have dutifully shunned me for nearly 9 years had the nerve to ask me for money.
it wasn't for food, a car payment, house payment or anything like that.

Oh, this is really hits a sore spot with me. Those miserable people that think they are too good to associate with "worldy people" and yet they are so willing to take our dirty money. I've been shunned by some of them and then when they take the time to be nice, you know they want to borrow something or sell you something. I know of one couple that thought it was perfectly OK to borrow a "worldly" couple's car for weeks and then when one of the "worldy" people had a serious health problem and couldn't get out to mow his own lawn the JW "friend" didn't make any offer to help him out! I was very surprised....er no I wasn't. Shame on them!

Tough day -- my mom died today
by cruzanheart inpoor thing, she's had alzheimer's for about 10 years and the last year she's been on hospice care because she's been so close to death.
the past few months she's been slowly filling up with water -- they gave her lasix (not sure of the spelling) to relieve the edema and it worked, sort of.
last weekend she actually looked a little better.

Was the JW Family only looking out for their own interest................
by HEAVENS DESTINY insenerio: jw family was in the mist of being evicted from there home, they have a student that they study w/ regularly whos family is also in the mist of loosing there home (they are opposed to the jw's).
jw family convinces the studies family that the jw is all good and to prove it they can come stay with them untill they (the non-jw family) get back on there feet and no pressure on having the whole family study unless they want to, rent then will be shared among all of them for a small period of time.. now is it acceptable for a jw family to take in worldy people into there home if they are not the least bit interested in jw?
was the jw family only looking out for there best interest and used outsider to share the rent?.

Maybe I'm just cynical based on my experiences with certain Witnesses, but I get the sense that they will make exceptions as long as they benefit from a situation. We know JW's and the only time they are friendly and come around is when they want to borrow something or sell something. The rest of the time they won't give you the time of day...my experience anyway. I'm sure their are exceptions though.

Reducing Contact w/Jehovah's Witnesses in the US--Tips

Most people that see a "No Soliciting" sign on someone's property are smart enought to figure out that the householder doesn't want to be bothered period and will respect the request. I for one will not put up a "No Trespassing" sign simply because of their arrogance. If they are rude and arrogant enough to ignore my request to be bothered and insist on coming to my door, then they will be treated rudely in return. Agnes
