COMING OUT PARANOIA?

hi - all these posts re "coming out" seem kind of paranoid or,what's the word or phrase, like delusions of grandeur, i mean no offense with this but it just seems like few jws would care who you are - at least now they wouldn't care if you done left already - am i missing something?

"No offense" but isn't this the second time you have posted in a manner as to insult people here under the 'guise of just trying to find out more information about Witnesses? If you truly want to find out why so many people have such strong feelings about not being a Witness anymore then I suggest actually doing an academic study about the religion by reading a few books that study the doctrines & traditions about Witnesses...but don't post about people sounding paranoid and then try to say "no offense". It is insulting to call someone even borderline paranoid if you haven't ever been in their situation and haven't taken enough steps to even understand what they are going through...

On topic now...I do agree that some are overly anxious about posting here. However, I do remember more then a few posters saying how people have reported them to elders & family members for finding out that they posted here. When you have so much to lose (association with family members & friends, the loss of your reputation) then it is understandable that you might be skittish about even perusing a message board like this.

They won't. That 4/1 article on the Wild Beast will be all the explanation they need...elders will use that generic article to cover any further annoying questions about the UN situation.

Simon, thanks for posting about your experiences leaving the WTS. I found it poignant that you discussed in the last few paragraphs about how easy it is to focus your whole life on being an ex-JW...that is one of the things I am working hard not to do. This religion has already claimed my childhood & family life so I definitely want to put it behind me as soon as possible...but this site has helped me to 1) see all the errors in WTS doctrine & 2) find out why I believed all those teachings so easily. I can honestly say that this site was integral to leaving the WTS and I can't thank you & everyone here for that...

Talk about opening a can o' worms...if governments now in WTS Doctrine can serve as "God's ministers" then why can't you support them through voting? By trying to cover themselves they are just opening up more contradictions...

A Different Kind Of Troof In England?

my mum's congregation get's involved in trips to see classical music, she goes dancing sometimes and even enjoys an official congregation organised picnic when the weather is good enough.

the df'ing thing seems to be regarded as an optional choice for the would-be shunner.

everyone there is very sociable and friendly with one another too.

There are a lot of congregations like the one you just described...it is just unfortunate that it isn't the rule. I grew up in a very close congregation...I remember when my father died they made dinner for us for a week while we prepared his funeral. We did go on actual fun trips (of course, there was a one day visit to Canadian Bethel but I remember the 5 days at Niagara Falls much better) and there were brothers & sisters who were genuinely concerned about me...

When it came down to it though, it was all conditional because they only would act like this toward JWs...

His style has always been full of innuendo & sexual tension...you remove that and you remove an essential part of his musical essence. This is akin to having Cypress Hill stop speaking about weed....

Do you ever feel like a member of the XJW cult??

what i specifically mean, is, sometimes do you feel frustrated that you are bound to xjw things / topics / issues?

once an xjw, always an anti jw type thing?

since leaving the organization in 2002 i've done a pretty good job of moving on, making "worldy" friends, met up w/ some wonderful xjw's (princess and family), and really don't think too much about how much pain jw's have caused me.....but every now and then i find myself compelled to read this board for hours...look up new teachings that make no sense......so in a way i feel forever bound to the xjw world....which i'm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing.

I do post here a lot and read here a lot...but I don't feel like I just joined another cult. The difference between being a Jehovah's Witness & being here is I have a choice to express my views...I have a choice to leave here and never talk about being a JW without being condemned for making that choice...and my opinions are respected as long as they are researched. That is why I wouldn't call it a cult...

Besides, the fact is that my life is so freaking strange (just from being a JW) that I find that only XJWs actually understand the range of motions & events I am going through. So, I think it is healthy to find out why you rejected the religion, why you didn't agree with its flawed doctrines, why you were willing to undergo the pychological pressure (even psychological torture in some cases) to disagree with & leave the WTS. If you don't & try to push it to the back burner of your mind then it will eventually come back to haunt you in other ways.

Automatic DA?ing of anyone taking a blood transfusion, now in the U.S!

friend of mine, who said that they just received a letter (us) from the society, stating that they should ?da?

anyone who takes a blood transfusion.

To further clarify my original post, the reason why they did this in Europe was because countries such as Bulgaria made an issue of the fact that a Witness could easily come to the scriptural conclusion that blood transfusions are alright and thusly have one without feeling it is a sin. This was part of the reason that Bulgaria refused to classify JW's as a religion (needless destructive doctrines) so the Society basically used legal wording to say that all JWs can exercise their conscious without fear of religious punitive actions. Thus, they use the 'disassociate' term instead of the 'disfellowship' term because 'disassociate' makes it seem that the person in question made the decision to leave themselves...of course, we all know that DA & DF are basically the same but the judicial court systems do not.
