Jehovah's people are the happiest people on earth!
by Coded Logic inso this afternoon my roommate and i decided to go grab some dinner from the local chipotle and, as we live only a short distance from the franchise, we decided it was a good idea to walk.
little did i know that the j-dubs district convention here in sacramento was just getting out (the auditorium is literally smack in the middle of downtown and its attendees have to park in garages scattered a couple blocks away in every direction) so men in cheap suits and women in unflattering dress' were walking all over the place as though someone had antagonized their ungodly ant hill.
and, for sacramento, this of course is the complete opposite of the normative - that is to say, our streets are usually filled with well dressed, immaculately groomed, 'i know exactly where i'm going' government officials that monopolize the state capitol m-f. .

Sounds like a good place for my "Plato's Cave Search and Rescue Team" t-shirt.

Sister attendants not able to give directions to a brother..Misogyny
by Theburstbubble inat our recent rc i was advised by a sister who was an attendant that they have been advised not to be able to give brothers directions as this should be dealt with by the brothers.
apparently at the pre-convention attendants meeting, the sisters were asked to stay behind.
this was when they were given the news that the brothers should deal with brothers.

Know what "residual energy" is?
In this case, it's the sounds of the screams of jw kids being dragged down the aisles and out to the back and beaten.
Old Geoffrey should be "not-beaten" to the extent of those kids.

Is it More Difficult for Us?
by vinman init seems that as ex jw's, we have a harder time with ttatt then other religions.
is that just because we claim to only use the bible unlike mormons?
is it because they like no other religion keep claiming to be jehovah's organization?

Another big shock, after 35 years as a jw, was realizing that although I "knew" the Bible backwards and forwards, it was with the jw bias and their slant on everything pointing to them. Just the staggering shock that the New World Translation was at least as highly manipulated and biased as the worst of other translations sponsored by religious groups. Duh. Tracking back to "original source" material goes further back than you might think. And looking afresh at the selection process and critical analysis leaves one with a vast array of previously-unconsidered possibilities. -

What's really hard for us is that "they" were really inside our heads. The mind control is so pervasive. The police state so complete. Getting out is more than just recognizing ttatt and never going back. It's knowing that we could easily run into people who are programmed to spy on us, snitch on us or form a committee around us. It's knowing that we have utterly lost our entire paradigm of existence and have to rebuild from scratch. Decisions, decisions. Reading. Talking. Searching for comrades.
Those of us who weren't born in at least may have some inkling of what reality was like before we blinked and they got us. Those who have been multi-generational have much more work to do.
Main thing to remember: The Borg is a burning building. The first decision is simply to get out alive. Then you can figure out where to go and what to do when you get away from all the filthy atmosphere.

Regardless of the claims, other churches actually do use "the name." They just haven't tried to trademark it. Other religions actually do go door to door; they just aren't required to keep alive a religious publishing house. Other churches do claim to be the "only true religion." Most will send you to hell instead of condemn you to death at Armageddon, but they use the concept in the same way. -

Do you remember the 15 minute break at the Sun. meeting?
by 3rdgen ina poster on another thread reminded me of when there was a 15 min.
break between the talk and the wt study on sundays.
the break was supposed to be to allow jw's time to drive their bible studys home from the talk.
