isn't it odd; even mysterious that christians think jesus could be represented by a serpent?
numbers 21:8 and the lord said unto moses, make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
21:9 and moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

i read your post under unhappywife and it did not bore me at all.
i am so very sorry .
Hey there, Hondo!

i got this idea from the thread about fun.
you know, today is different, i have some good memories from years ago, cake after bookstudys, kiddie parties, intermissions, mcdonalds for break at field service.
happy elders who would tease me as a little girl and carry me from door to door.
In the last congregation I was in, I felt happy because there were a lot of really cool people there. I had several friends with whom I could have really great conversations, and I have fond memories of those times.
Of course, the reality of how they reacted when presented with information that challenged them has rather changed the quality of those memories. I now have friends that can talk about just as cool subjects, but who don't have an invisible fence preventing them from thinking about...oh, most of the cool topics in the universe. At the same time, I think about how cool my old friends would be if they could just unentangle their brains from the borg.
Odrade - Just wanted to say I hear where you're coming from.

i don't imagine we'll see this in the watchtower any time soon!.

Wow! This thread is getting some major play! Chalk one up for SNG, baby!
I think the thing I've agreed with most so far on this thread is that it is the attitude of the beholder that makes porn harmful or helpful. It might seem harmful to a guilt-ridden Catholic altar boy, and he will probably feel dirty and ashamed about it. But that's more because of his culture and attitude, than because of the external stimulus. The same photos might just be good clean fun to a person raised in a different culture.
And I think one interesting thing about the proliferation of porn on the internet - and it seems that this was one of the major points of the study - is that it is not just "perfect" people. You've got all sorts of incredibly normal looking people. The article indicated that porn viewers had a more balanced view of various body types. Maybe we're shifting away from a culture of untouchable glamour to one of reality. Human are sexual. That's reality. Maybe people are just becoming less prudish about that fact.
I dunno. Just my two cents.

LOL @ German...dude, it's not too hard to find. No need to get your porn here....
Flyin', I dunno about your summation. I think I kind of understand what they're talking about in that report. Not that I would know, of course.

what rules do you think we would have had in a watchtower run new system?
when my local assembly hall was built it had grounds around it , which had a very large amount of money spent on them.brothers would come every week to look after them.you would think then that you could have a taste of the new system in these surroundings.the assembly hall with its large gardens could be a glimpse into the new system.the brothers and sisters just like the cover of the paradise tract sitting on the grass.but you havent bargined of the insanity of watchtower rules.we were told dont walk on the grass.
now why in gods name build an enormass garden around the assembly hall only to be told you carn't use it?all you could do was stand on the concrete pathway and look.
Sorry, this isn't totally on topic, but I just have to say about the language thing...
In my experience, the older Witnesses (or the frustrated ones that couldn't learn a second language the normal way) were big on all people switching to a single tongue miraculously. I always privately dismissed that idea as nonsensical, because even if it happened, it would only be a matter of time until languages splintered again as they do in the normal course of events. Look at Latin. It's still around today, it just happens to look like Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and Romanian (and a couple others).

since the watchtower has regularly disseminated "false prophecy" over the years and has given truly silly reasonings for their beliefs, let's give the society some ideas as to what they might put into the next watchtower.....i'll start----"since the elders are representatives of christ jesus himself, we should give them glory too.

The truth has nothing to hide from. That's why we encourage you to do deep personal research using whatever tools seem appropriate to you. You might start with the public library and then try sampling the vast amount of solid data available on the Internet. University websites are great places to get reliable information. Remember, it is important to obtain a variety of opinions to form a balanced viewpoint. You don't need to feel threatened when you encounter contradictory information. Just think about it carefully, and if it has merit, incorporate it into your views.
Feel free to research our history. God won't be upset. In fact, he wants you to seek after truth. Whatever decisions you form will be solidly based ones, and there's no way God can be angry with you for that. Just be honest, the rest will work itself out.
Your fellow truth-seekers,

i was re-reading some of the old posts in the best of.... i was thinking....wouldnt it be great for this topic to appear on prime time.
i really dont think many members are aware of this issue even to this day.
i would like to see interviews with officials at the un and the wts.
I wouldn't be so sure that this is out of the realm of possibility. 20/20 and 60 Minutes and that ilk of show love to do expose~s. I can see a photo montage of all the pictures of burning UN buildings, etc, juxtaposed nicely with the UN DPI letter. And I think the Malawi issue makes for a chilling human story. I definitely think this merits some consideration. What we need is for someone to write a really great letter, print some glossy reprints of pertinent articles, and send a care package to a couple networks. Maybe we won't get a sixty minute spot, but I can certainly see it as a 10-minute story.
