if you change religions by changing your mind and moving on to something "better", then, technically you are an apostate.. consequently, unless you are born a jw you have to abandon another religion to become a jw.
so, being an apostate is a good thing if you abandon some other religion; but, if you abandon the jw's you are bad.. martin luther abandoned catholicism.
he was an apostate.

has the internet and forums like these caused an exodus from the j-dubs?
when i left in the early 1990s i met support groups through the yellow pages but it still felt like i was the only one in the world who was an apostate.
i've come to this forum in the last year to browse because my brother has now left.
Hello Brother Devoted,
I was Brother Devoted myself for 25 years, so I can understand why you say what you did. It's the standard line given by the Society for people who have differences. I applied it to my own dad when he left.
Unfortunately, the entire argument is just a silly strawman. And it isn't even true. Witnesses look for any tiny shred of "evidence" to try to make it true, but it's just an organizational line with little to no bearing in reality.
With that I say,
Peace out, bro.
the september kingdom ministry, for week beginning october 4, discusses the video "respect jehovah's authority.".
i have seen this video myself, and for those still on a guilt trip, it will serve to re-inforce that the society is backed by jehovah.
if you are in the organization and are on a collision course with the soverign of the universe then you need to develop your loyalty to jehovah .
While reading that KM article, I got this image in my mind of a guy in a suit crouching menacingly behind a table. He slowly rises up, hands in the air like claws, saying "Hoogety-hoogety-hoogety-BOO!" in his best scary voice. On the other side of the table sits a kid with his arms folded, looking totally unimpressed.
The boogy man is just looking sillier and sillier all the time.

can anyone relate and help with the nagging doubts that it really was the"truth" and we are all doing the wrong thing and being misled.
i have read a lot of information to sway me from the witnesses and to think it is only a man made religion, but still i fear i could be wrong and going against god.
how do you all deal with this feeling that surely most have experienced.
Hello Sam,
Welcome to the board! I hope you'll enjoy yourself here and find lots of good information. Regarding something you posted...
What is the strongest thing that makes you right in your newfound convictions of truth
Remember, you're coming out of an organization that claims to have the universe wrapped up in 20 paragraphs for study on a Sunday morning. That is not the way the real universe is. The entire concept that you have to have the entire world figured out in an easily-digestable shrink-wrapped package, is just wrong.
Basically, what I'm trying to say is that leaving the organization does not put you under compulsion to come up with some other overarching story of the universe. Why not just take it one step at a time? We know the Witnesses are wrong. That doesn't mean you need to try to find another religion or worldview or anything else unless you want to, and when you want to.
My friend says, stick to what's real. Figure yourself out. Take a good long look at the world around you. Interact with people without judging them. See things for what they are. The more you do that, the better you'll understand the real world, and the more you'll realize that the Witnesses are just plain loopy.

Absolutely!

LOL @ Mary! Nothing like a good scriptural joke now and then, is there now?

well, this is my first post here, and i'm kind of doing it in secret, cause i know if my parents knew of my "poisoning myself with apostates" they would not be happy at all.
anyways, my story is; i'm 17, i've been brought up "in the truth" my whole life, and now i'm starting to question the wt and christianity in general, and i have nobody to talk to about it.
i feel awkward about talking to my witness friends about it, cause i worry that if i speak out against the organazition and the wrong people (i.e; young ones around here that would never think of questioning the society) hear about it, it might result in my punishment (reproof or dfing).
Welcome, Red So Deep! It sounds like you have some challenging months ahead, but we're here to help. Keep being open and honest, you're gonna do great! I look forward to seeing you around.

it's gonna be all right.
well peeps, i went to the kindom hall tonight, not to actually meet with the judicial comittee convened in my honor, but rather just to hand deliver a letter to the chairman of said comittee, telling them that they had "hurt my feelings by choosing to 'judge' me, when they hadn't even really seen me in about five years.
" *snif* also telling them to "lay off, man".. i really didn't know how to handle this situation, which i'd only first heard about 2 days ago.
Hey Six,
As I read your story I imagined walking into my old hall, and man, it does give a guy the heebie-jeebies. Here's wishing you the best of luck in dealing with those guys. I'd be interested in reading your letter if you ever decide to post it, or if you want to PM it.
So that part about the frilly lace outfit on the MS was fictional, right? Because I was thinking it would probably be more like a see-through pantsuit or something.

one possible solution to the problem of how to get source fuel for fuel cells in a green way.
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=585&e=1&u=/nm/20040825/sc_nm/energy_vegoils_dc
Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. After all, the "saturated" and "unsaturated" in the names of fat varieties refer to the saturation level of hydrogen. For example, saturated fats have hygrogen tagged onto every carbon atom in the molecule, whereas mono-unsaturated fats have a single point of non-saturation, etc.
But even in the case of poly-unsaturated fats, that's still a frigging lot of hydrogen in any kind of oil. Interestingly, they mentioned a tie-in with biodiesel. I'm not sure if this is where they were going, but if biodiesel could be used to run existing diesel engines, as well as provide hydrogen for fuel cells, that would make it the perfect bridge into a world where diesel engines are gradually phased out in favor of fuel cells, since they could both use the same fuel.
Pretty cool, huh?
