Firstly, they come from the society itself. There is no external or public check of the numbers. Each congregation posts off its figures, I presume weekly, to the society. Everyone knows their little bit, but not whole picture. Who audits these figures? No one.

Secondly, you fakers. One faker would make the figures invalid. There are thousands out there, if not millions. You cannot interpret numbers when the data is flawed, as it obviously is.

Thirdly, the society can put whatever numbers it likes into the latest statistics. IMHO they are only there as a nice little motivator for the R&F. It would not be good for morale if a too bad drop in figures was reported. I know it has in the past, but the WBTS is trying to stop a drip, not an exodus. A drip is easier to hide.

Fourthly, they reported a 2% growth in the US. Now how can you square that with the anecdotal evidence in Metradons thread "The Watchtower Attendance Crisis" which is still live on the Board? Is there 2% growth, for every 100 Witnesses 2 joined last year? Or is there a decline? Someone is telling fibs.

Fifthly, the figures which would really make a difference and could be audited is the financial statement. Now that would be worth seeing. It would give a more accurate picture of the growth and state of the Org, but we are never likely to see that are we?

i remember going to the hall in the 70's and we had lots of windows.

then they started building them without.

Flipping off an elder's wife

a couple of days ago, i was running a few errands before a meeting with my professor.

i was in such a happy mood, chatting with the store clerk about the weather, etc.

when i turned around to leave, there was the elder's wife, standing in the middle of the store, staring at me with undisguised venom.

good news... good news!!!.

i got a phone call a short time ago and it's official... i got a new contract job!

granted... it's not a perm position like i had before... but it'll pay the bills!

Congrats!!

Contracting is the way to go. I've been doing it for 3 years now. Get bored, move on, if your good, name your price. No hangups about company policy, long term commitments, dead end roles, personality clashes. I feel for these poor employees. :-)

The Watchtower Attendance Crisis

if the average congregation has about 83 publishers in the us, then the organization may be sinking into a crisis.. take that 83 and consider that half the congregations may have less.. take away '15 minute publishers' who don't attend.

take away completely fake publishers who rarely attend.

take away increasingly tired publishers who 'feel sick', are depressed, or just want to stay at home and watch tv.. .

Years ago people did not understand the world they lived in. Why diseases killed, why there were droughts, food shortages etc, the only constant was the sun rising every morning. Today we know about viruses, bacteria and have antibiotics, we understand weather patterns, El Nino and have pesticides and much, much more; the street lights now block out the once revered constellations, who needs religion to explain what we know as fact. There are grey areas but religion comes with baggage, creation, sin, obligations and responsibility etc.

The need for religion has gone by and large and hopefully the end of mind controlling totalitarian cults. We should be so lucky!
