Like some of the other posts, I see no reason to think that suicide rates are higher among JWs. Just because someone happens to know of several cases proves nothing. I don't know a single person, JW or not, that has committed suicide, it certainly does not mean that suicides don't happen very often. On the flipside, I see no reason to think that JWs are in any way "sheltered" from suicide.

last week i was involed in a very distressing situation, going with a family to identify their mother who had commited suicide.. we are waiting for the coroner to release the body for the funneral.. but, so far this year a number of jw have commited suicide in england,why???.
can any one throw a light why so many jw of good standing commit suicide,.

I can't believe that people would be in agreement with this. Those of you who agree with it and live in the US do not belong here. You should move to Moscow so you can be with like minded people.
This is a complete step back for the advancements in religous freedom that were made in Russia. I'm ashamed for anyone who is so blinded by their bitterness and hatred of JWs as to agree with this. It shows a complete lack of objectivity and tolerance and complete arrogance.

by ColdRedRain ini've noticed that alot of jw youth that leave the faith in their late teens and early twenties become one of those 4 things, yet i haven't seen many in this forum.
it might also be that i'm not here that often (380 posts since oct of '02).

Never got all that into Goth or Punk, but dabbled into the music. I fancied myself a mod in my younger days and have always listened to some of the fringe goth and punk. Now I just collect music of all kinds.

The idea of turning in time became repulsive to me. If it is meant to be a service to Jehovah, then turning in time only enters in the fear of man. Service to Jehovah is meant to be a personal experience between you and God, not to be reported about in quantities to others.

A perfect example of the dogmatism. If they want to teach that it might be something to avoid based on the superstition that bad things happened in the biblical accounts, fine. But to DF people who feel there is nothing wrong with it and decide to celebrate them is what a Pharisee would do, not what Jesus would do.

Welcome Big Shooter! The only thing people might freak out on is the lack of spacing and paragraphs in your post, it's an eye work out!
I'm sorry you have had such difficulty. It's interesting, when you write down your experiences, it is much easier to then read them and be objective about all that is wrong within the "wonderful" organization. But while it is happening, you are so burdened down with guilt and pressure that you can't see the UNChrist-like attitudes.
My wife and I did not have the negative experiences that you have, but we did start having doubts and so we did exactly what the WT says to do. We did more personal bible study on these doubts, but did not limit ourselves to only WT pubs. Since then we have come to our own conclusions and are at the tail end of a fade away from being JWs.
The first thing you might want to think about is that the Society does NOT equal Jehovah. The term "Faithful and Discreet Slave" is seldom used in the bible and when it is, it is in the form of a parable with multiple outcomes, NOT the form of a prophecy about a group of men dictating beliefs to the rest of God's people.
Once you start to step back you will see that the dogmatism of the Society is absolutely absurd! They are more Pharisee-like than they are Christ-like.
Realising this can help you be more objective about what you do and don't believe, without fear of going "against" what the Society says.
I have no problem with the WT coming to some of the crazy conclusions and beliefs that they do, what bothers me is that you HAVE to go along with it. If an elder says otherwise, ask him what would happen if you repeatedly raised your hand and pointed out alternate beliefs for things like 1914, the cross, 144,000 being literal, F &DS not being a prophesy, etc.
This web board is a good place to get some opposing and alternate viewpoints.
Remember truth has nothing to hide. If someone tells you NOT to read certain types of books for fear of swaying you, then ask them how do you know you are not just being "swayed" by them if you are so easily influenced. Good luck and please feel free to post any questions or thoughts you might have.

given the topicality of the passion of the christ, it got me thinking again about the manner of his death... i had always been led to believe , in my days as a dub , that death on a stake was far more likely and logical because to be suspended with spread arms would place too much centre of gravity in the centre and the body would pitch forward.. given that jesus took several hours to die, i found the following quote from .the above site interesting ..
