You asked for some hard facts and have been given a slew of topics to choose from to discuss. Now you are nowhere to be found. Does this mean that you are not REALLY interested in whether or not it is "the truth?"
i read and take in a lot on this board.
but i have yet to see hard facts.
what are the actual beliefs of jw's that you have found are false and what is the basis for it?

jehovah's witnesses banned from moscow by russian court.
is the heading of the article in the religious section of our newspaper yesterday.
moscow (ap) a moscow court has banned the religious activities of jehovah's witnesses from the russian capital in a move that critics called a step back for democracy and religious freedom.
In general I agree, but not in the case of religions that advocate extremely harmful practices. One that advocates ritual murder or ritual child molestation should be banned outright. I don't understand how anyone can disagree with this, because it would be equivalent to the government implicitly endorsing such beliefs.
AlanF,
What do you consider to be the extremely harmful practices of Jehovah's Witnesses? You seem very adamant about it, but I don't see any harmful practices that would warrant their banning the same way that ritual murder or ritual child molestation might.

I'm moving to Russia in support
Perhaps you should if you support the government restricting freedom of religion.

Is there a biblical basis for weekly communion? I don't know of any. The not partaking does go against scripture though.

Beliefs?
1.1914
2.Faithfull & Discreet Slave
3.DFing (the judicial committee and reinstatement part)
4.144,000 being a literal number
5.Dogmatism
6.Jesus not being the mediator for all mankind, only the 144,000
7.Blood Transfusions
8.Turning in time and meeting attendance
9. Lots and lots of other minor beliefs (cross, holidays, association, other religions) that full under dogmatism in that they are not forbidden in the bible but you can get DFed for them or they are forbidden through unwritten laws.
10. Hypocrisy with the way they handle reporting child molestation and being part of the UN when brothers died following WT instructions on a similar situation in Malawi.
Pick any of those and I would gladly discuss my differences and viewpoints on them, either here, a seperate thread or PMs.
By the way, I am not DFed or DAed.

I don't think this was meant to be a scientic study per say.......but just a count of what those of us who know suicide victims , can just compare for ourselves the numbers we know JW and Non JW.
I understand, the problem with this is it is limited information yet people will still base conclusions on it as if it is proof of something. That is what I hope DOES NOT happen, but I know WILL happen.
I can say for sure........that the JW's are more depressed , in pain, emotionaly and physically, and they talk about it more, than those I know who are not JW's. This is just my opinion of what I see around me. So there is no way I am mislead by the numbers on this post.......they are real and I have seen it myself
That's fine, just as long as you realize that it has just been your "personal experience" and is not a reflection of either group as a whole (JW or Non-JW.) Just as my personal experience of most JWs around me being happier than worldly people I know does NOT mean that JWs on a whole are happier people, it only means that it has been my personal experience.
It is akin to the ideas of racism (not that I am accusing anyone on here as being similar to or at all racist, it's just the easiest example I can think of.) Let's say that I am white and I live in a neighborhood that is half white and half Asian. Let's say that I was beat up 5 different times and they were all Asian guys each time. That certainly does not mean that Asians are more violent than white people. As you can imagine, there are lots of other variables that could lead to my personal experience.

Getting numbers from one person doesn't provide much basis to make a conclusion.Putting all these numbers together speaks a lot louder. I gave a lot of leaning room for it to be wrong (everyone else vs JWs), but the numbers are still high on the JW side.Again, no offense to you personally, but these numbers are NOT enough information to base conclusions as damning as this, yet that is what people tend to do when faced with simple, unquantified statistics. These numbers are so spread out and contain so many variables that they do NOT PROVE anything, yet when stuff like this is posted, people in general will jump to unfounded conclusions based on them. That's my gripe.

but a group called silentlambs has still gained visibility in its campaign to change the sexual abuse policies of jehovah's witnesses.. .

Hello Hawkaw,
My 2 cents, at first I thought this letter did not have the damning effect that you posted. But upon consideration, I realized that I'm coming from a different angle than some and I'm always thinking of whether or not something is damning in the eyes of an active JW whereas your work focuses on creating external legal and public pressure on the WT.
To me, the 2 witness rule is irrelevant. I could care less how the elders judge someone. My problem is with their reporting policy and would like to see all accusations handed over to the authorities. I wish either the WT would be proactive and change their policy or that the states in the US that do NOT require this would catch up to the modern awareness of this problem and require it.
I think the JWs two witness rule for DFing is completely within their realm of freedom of worship, especially since they have conceded to allowing two single witnesses from two single accounts in the case of sexual offenses. But their unwillingness to report accusations of such an illegal abhorence is damaging to society and people in general. That is what I would like to see changed.
If any JW says that the WT is just following caesar's law, then they should be reminded that the law was created for confidentiality of Christendom's tradition of confessions to priests which JWs do not practice, so they are participating and abusing a law created for Christendom, not "true Christians." Again, just my 2 cents on a very personal issue against the WT.

This is ridiculous! Anyone on this thread ever taken a class on statistics? If so, maybe you can explain how there should be NO CONCLUSIONS based on this information. Well, actually you can make all the conclusions you want, but this information would not support a conclusion either way. Do not be mislead by statistic fallacies.
in prior posts, i discussed how older ane material from canaanite and sumerian/akkadian tradition can survive quite late.
in 1 enoch, for example, we see how a famed rephaim from canaanite epic poetry, the wise judge danel (cf.
ktu 1.17-19), mentioned in ezekiel 14:12-20, 28:1-3, was recast as a fallen angel in 1 enoch 6:7, 69:2 (see [1] for discussion), and how the stories of enoch's journey to the ends of the earth and into the underworld mimic that from the epic of gilgamesh (cf.
Leolalia,
Please keep up these great posts! I've only skimmed this for now, but it seems interesting. I'll have to print it out and read it away from work when I can concentrate on it a bit more.

This will still be far from accurate as there are certain uncontrolled variables. For some people on here, the majority of the people they know are JWs, for some the majority are worldy, so you can't compare the two groups.
