Why no JW charitable activities?

it is my impression that the only "community work" jws do is door-to-door preaching.

how do they justify never taking an active, or at least organized, role in alleviating suffering--even of their own members?

I remember asking this question when I was an active JW and being told that the best help we could give people was teaching them about Jehovah so they could get everlasting life. And in my head I would think "Oh brother! What a crock."
Another reason I remember hearing as to why we didn't get involved with groups to save the earth was that only Jehovah could save the earth and in the new system we would be able to help save the earth. The society has an answer for everything that has the possibilty of distracting its loyal followers.

looks like in conjunction with my post yesterday about the farm putting up some new printing presses, the brooklyn branch is starting to sell off some of its property!

a mass exodus may have begun upstate.

do you think there is any correlation between intelligence and membership?

most jws i've known aren't that bright, and it seems that most that leave are really intelligent.. just an observation.

I have to agree with Oroborus. I think it is ridiculous to equate low IQs with JWs, or to think that just because we think differently then them that we are smarter. There are all kinds of intelligent people in the world who belong to some crazy way of thinking.
I know one thing for sure, it takes some intelligence to run the WT so that it rakes in as much money as it does.

Probably written off as an "operational expense", as their twin-engine airplane they use to go to fishing places in Alaska.
What is your point Gerard? Besides a house would be a capital expenditure, not an operational expense. Nevertheless, it would be a business expense for the WT Corp, not a personal purchase. I'm not sure what you are trying to get at.

Hehe, well I don't think we should go that far. But I think a lot of people would feel better about this if they knew these detainees were at least going to get a fair trial before we kill them. At least that's all I'd want to see.

Have you ever been in the living quarters of one of the GB? I have, and it was the siza of a studio apartment.
You are a fanatic, almost as bad as a JW, and you seem obsessed with how much money the WT has. Too bad you have failed to show how personal riches are the motives for any of the WT Leaders.

These guys weren't defending their homes against and invading army. Most of the Al Qaeda nut jobs were foriegners.
I think the point that some are trying to make is that we can all assume this...us on this board because you tell us, and you because of your friends who are closely involved, but nevertheless, without a fair trial, we have no way of knowing if this is true or not. My biggest concern is that these men might get tried by a biased tribunal and then executed. We have a hard enough time not executing innocent people in our own country, and that's with a fair trial by jury.
