  Reading Older Society Publications

  i was once told by a sister who is a proof - reader at the world headquarters,that if you have the last ten years of watchtowers that is all you need to be up to date on current society teachings.i mention this because many jw's frown on the practice of reading older publications and are quick to point out this fact to anyone who attemts to confront them with a statement that the organization has made in the past.. if this should happen to you,as it did to me when i have mentioned what the society has said in print in the past,direct them to the watchtower 6-15-85 p.12 ..."it means reading the footnotes in the wt.articles,some of which refer the reader to an older publication ( it does not qualify within 10 years )...it requires digging deeper,putting forth effort to locate that older publication and studying the pages to.".

  so,this proof-reader needs to pay more attention to what she herself is reading when giving advice to others as to how far back we can go to examine what the society has said in the past.. blondie's post is an excellant example of how she herself supports everything she writes in her "comments you will not hear"on current wt.study articles,digging deeper and putting forth much effort to locate that older publication where-in out of the society's own mouth they are caught lying and being hypocritical in what they tell the rank and file.. blueblades

  not read any of yeru's other posts, but i agree totally about the ones in this topic. i can't say much because i don't have any kids, but people in the west these days seem to have forgotton what it means to be a parent, they let governments govern what they can and cannot do. personally i think this is bullshit, if your parents create you, care for you, feed you, clothe you, teach you, basically give you everything, then hell yes they have rights over you, you do as you're told, and if you don't, you're dealt with, sure there are good and bad ways of dealing with things and i used to get dealt with quite a lot. not everyone deals with things in the same way, but the bottom line is that the 'right' of the parent is not something to be trifled with and it is their right, take that away and we're not people, we're another type of borg.

  What is Christmas to an Ex-JW?

  what is christmas to you?

  if you were raised a jw, as my children were, getting used to christmas takes time, and does not carry with it any memories.

  for others who became jws later in life, it took time to get over christmas and learn to discredit the custom and lose feelings for it, and in some cases even learn to hate christmas as an evil pagan evoluton of apostate christianity.. .

  I was born and raised a JW, my birthday is on Christmas day, as a kid Christmas meant the time I had to tell all the other kids I got presents all year around that's why i got NO Christmas presents, also when I was asked my birthday had to have responses when people said 'Oh so you get twice as many presents' or 'oh you get only half as many presents' and i would be like 'haha, no, i get NO presents!'

  anyways, i never celebrated xmas as a kid, and when i left jw's most of my friends were not christian and so did not celebrate it either, so to date i have never celebrated a xmas or a birthday, and inside i don't know how that's meant to feel. i like listening to all the annoying happy christmas music and even if the mood is fake, it feels nice to go out sometimes shopping at night and see all these people running around sorting things out, but there's nothing inside me that says to celebrate, i don't even know what feelings i have toward a god either, for me it's like a whole grey area, three days to go and i don't expect one call to say happy birthday, or one to say merry xmas, and the thing is, i cannot complain because that is normal.

  i always thought there was something wrong with the picture, but that's what christmas is to me,

  hey seattleniceguy, you sound like a cool person, all the chicks should PM you, you got a good outlook on life, if i were really trying to describe myself properly it wouldn't be terribly dissimilar to what you wrote, but i would surely make a mess of it!

  As for experience in jw land, i was born one and was until the age of 18ish, so 8 years out, family still are jw's back in England.

  France is less than a day away, and i was only joking about the tongue thing, so please don't take offence babyface!!!
