this question has always troubled me.. suppose you write a book.
it becomes a best seller.
then some little fart comes along and replaces your name with anonymous.. now this book can be published and edited by just about anybody who chooses to be "anonymous".. end result - your original work is lost and some revised edition has replaced it, written by "anonymous".
God did actually write the Bible
you reckon?
i think major parts old testement exist in a very accurate form, proved by the existence of the the dead sea scrolls which showed that the integrity of the text in those sections was accurate, when compared to other manuscripts from later periods, it showed that there hadn't been major changes to that part of the bible.
of course that is to the original langauge, not translation, in translation there's no letter 'j' throughout the whole hebrew scriptures so naturally a lot is not right and translators messed up a great deal in early editions, confusing names of people etc.
then there also are the issues of who compiled the biblical canon and how they did it, oodles of info out there
there is a scripture somewhere that states words to the effect of if a letter in the torah (the books of moses, genesis-deuteronomy) is changed, then the world will cease to be, but this could easily mean that as long as there is one accurate unchanged copy somewhere out there, it's alright if the others are corrupted.
the only way to guage whether the bible is the word of something higher than men is a lab test of its prophecies, which i know has been done before using laws of probability etc.
i found it the most upbuilding, faith-strengthening book i have ever read.
particularly coming from the judgmental wt system, it was like a comforting refreshing stream in which to bathe.
i know that many on this board no longer believe in god or the bible.
as bond girls go...
jws say, "the apostates are miserable!!
".....do you feel miserable?
(i don't).
it's hard to say really, i was born in and left when i was old enough to leave, i wasn't happy in and haven't really been overjoyed since.
-i can't truly say whether i am i am happier now than when i was in because all my years as a jw were all in childhood/adolescene, and my whole adult life i have been out of it, both had their own difficulties.
-i do imagine i am happier now at this age than in the life i've chosen than i would have been at this age had i lived the jw life.
-it's fair to say i'm happier now than at any other time since i left.
hey!
ever read the wt and awake articles and get tired of seeing words and prases like "the society's counsel on..."
'the work'
'the truth'
'truth things'
'in the world'
'ones'
'its the beat dad'
i am a 20 year old baptized wittness who for the past year has been trying to do some serious reserach on all the things i have been made to believe in the wt society.it only makes sense that my research should not only include those in the wt publications and so therefore i need some help:
1. what is everyone's thoughts on society not allowing brothers to wear beards?
i read somewhere that russel(society's first prez) had a beard and the second pres( russel) wanted to completely dissassosiate anything having to do with russel and so therefore outlawed against them.
hi chikabella welcome to the board.
Am I the only person here a little suspicious of someone that claims to be a Jehovah's Witness, but then spells it "WITTNESS" at least two times (in the post, and in the title)?
i was a jw up until i was 18 and i often had to double check if it was witness or wittness or wittnesses or witneses or witnesses.
this being said, i am suspicious of everyone on this board, i think you are all baaaad apostates.

all things being being equal, is the feminine gender endowed with more trancendent beauty than the masculine?
before sending any stock replies like, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," let me just say that i acknowledge some degree of relative beauty insofar as man and woman bear their own distinctive perfections.
but consider specifically which sex seems to bear more inherent grace to the end that it inspires our sense of harmony and desire to be more perfect ourselves.
i think the beauty in men takes a lot more work to see than in women. that is inner beauty. external beauty... we all know who is hot and who is not, and you get nice & nasty in both sexes.
go to cnn.com and watch the latest on how one of bin laden's close associates surrendered!.
good!
maybe they'll be closer to catching bin laden now.. dy
if he's even still alive, he's probably dead already and so will never die, it's always good to have someone to blame for everything.
so, the world court is upset with israel over it's wall.
when will this kind of thing be addressed...which explains the reason for the wall.. .
gaza's killing schoolchildren as young as 10 are being recruited to fight for the palestinian cause.
the world court is a waste of time if it can't enforce anything contrary to us interests or unless the us say it's okay, it's pathetic, imo as long as the world doesn't stand up to the us and kick its ass is as long as the world deserves to get bent over and take it in the same proverbial by the us.
