Hi Mulan: YES! I recalled the name while I was away from the PC. Angelo C. Manera On the DC program he was often listed as A.C. Manera. He was a powerful bombastic little runt, who came across like a Billy Graham. When he came to our congregation he was a mild and terrible speaker. He was even worse going door-to-door. It was like he was a first grader at the door. He stuttered, lost his thoughts, and would quickly find a way to leave the door. But put him in front of 60,000 JWs and you would think that he was President of the USA. WOW! A.C. Manera ... brings back a lot of memories. - Amazing

Hi Max: Yes, I recall the name Floyd Kite. But Angelo Catanzaro is not ringing any bells. The bombastic DO was named Angelo something ... it seems his last name to started with an M ... but I am having a brain blackout. I will just have to find the old DC program and see what some of the names were back then. Thanks. Amazing

Hi You Know: I enjoyed your post. Generally, your comments about the Anointed among the JWs and the Watch Tower theological theory is is within what I understood as a JW. I well understood that theory and for many years accepted it as truth.
You noted in your conclusion,
But as for the anointing itself, John wrote as regards the anointing: "you do not need anyone to be teaching you; but, as the anointing from him is teaching you about all things, and is true, and is no lie..." So, there is no reason that anyone should need to consult a Watchtower magazine or anyone else to find out if they are anointed.
I agree with you on this 100%. And the verse you quoted is one of my favorites on this, and was one of THE verses that actually clarified my views as a JW anointed, and thus I was not driven the same way to consult Watch Tower poublications. Most of my research was done at the beginning of my JW career, and became less as I grew in understanding of the Society's theological interpretations.
You continued,
Jehovah is the Great Communicator. He knows every language of man and angels. He can easily communicate via his spirit with anyone whom he calls and choses to participate in the heavenly calling. Each of those whom God communicates with know it.
I have no dispute with your premise here. This is as it should be. The question is, do humans embellish or coem to interpret something as from God when in fact it is their own fantasy and wishful thinking. Given that the Society of Jehovah's Witnesses are a proven fraud and serious deviant from the basic Christian faith, I cannot help but believe that much of what JWs think is from God is none other than their own interpretive views. I do not mean to belittle JWs with this, because this is equally true of other Christian groups as well. It is a very human behavior to attribute meaning and assign Divine manipulation to events on this planet. It is part of our ancient tribal ways.
You continued,
But that doesn't mean that a person can't lose their anointing. Obviously many have been unfaithful.
The Watch Tower Society has directly stated that once Anointed, you are Anointed forever. What you lose if you die 'unfaithful' is the reward and benefit of the fulfillment of what Anointing would bring, such as heavenly life, ruling with Christ, etc. So, a replacement to fill a vacancy in the full number of 144,000 is then required. My comment about not losing the Anointing was in reference to this aspect, because some JWs of the OS have the belief that a person can get 'busted' down in rank from being of the Anointed to one of the OS. This is simply not true or in line with Watch Tower theological beliefs and interpretations.
The reason that I now believe that all Christians are Anointed is that I have shifted my views from a "class" system with organizational rankings to that of merely diiscribing various features and characteristics of the Christian faith. We are all equal and none have an advantage over another.
As for the Devil's supposed lie that all Christians will go to heaven, there is not one word in the Bible that remotely discusses this specific issue in this fashion. This is purely Watch Tower conjecture and speculation. God granting everlasting life to those who are saved by his Son Jesus Christ is really good enough. All the rest of the layers of religious debates, theological constructions are really little more than human attempts to try and know more than what God has revealed. All religions have failed in this regard, among which the Jehovah's Witness religion has become a leader in promulgating fraudulant ideology designed to extol and promote men and organization above concern for truth and for people.
Jesus Christ, on the other hand was one to strip away the religious layers of human invention and tradition, and show real concern for people and truth, common sense, and heartfelt love for common people. It is Jesus Christ who has kept me from losing my faith in God. - Amazing

'Millions Now Living Will Never Have a Life'
by ISP inmillions now living will never have a life that should have been the proclamation in the 1920s.
it certainly turned out to be the case for those who listened.
often you get a real insight into this by considering the wasted-life stories that appear in the magazines.

Hi ISP: Very interesting and well stated post. I recall one year at the District Convention in the 1970s where the DO first used this "sloganistic" comment that stuck with JWs and I think was eventually published in a Watchtower study article: Brothers, many of you wish to live normal lives, but how can you expect to live normal lives, when these are anything but normal times!
Clearly the Society uses and abuses peoples lives, and I agree with your twist on this, "Millions now living will never have a life." Very good way to put it. - Amazing

HI Terraly: My own experience being an Anointed JW was that some kindly accepted it and others did not, but few said much and mostly did not give it a thought except around Memorial time. When Circuit Overseers visited, they always routinely asked the Elders about me and if everything was okay. The purpose of their questions was not out of concern for me, but whether or not I was a 'problem' for the Elders. The Elders always gave good comments about me because I normally meshed in well with the group.
Once I was appointed as an Elder this 'questioning' continued, but with less concern. As I got older, and the majority base of JWs was younger, then my being of the Anointed was less and less a concern. And at times became too positive. In other words, if I said something by way of a religious opinion, and it differred from what another Elder said, then more weight was given to my words because of the big-A on my cape. LOL
I only ran into one really serious problem with a congregation I visited while out on business. Wesley Brenner was the Co visiting during the Memorial time, and an issue was made by a couple of local MSs and he as Co got involved. Eventually the Society was brought into the issue, because some locals did not feel that I should be partaking. That should make for a good post. I might do that later today. - Amazing

Hi Danny: 1965 was just a few years before I became involved. I was first introduced to the JWs in 1968. I did not know of many JWs in San Francisco, because I lived north of there. Although I did attend District conventions at both Oakland where they were mostly held and once at Keisar Stadium in SF - the old 49rs ball field. Yuk, it was really run down and too crowded to use by 1971. That is the convention where I went door-to-door with flyers advertizing the program, and got a gun shoved in my face along with two German Shepherds. Never did that again.
I am trying to recall some well known names from that place and time. I can't recall any names at the moment, but I still have my first Assy program from 1970. I recall one little Italian DO who had a son who was a CO. He was shy in person, but when he got on the platform at District Conventions, he was a dynamic bombastic speaker. Kind of a JW version of Billy Graham.
As soon as I recall some names, I will make a new post for memory lane. - Amazing

This Board
by joelbear ini've been thinking a lot about this board and the people here over the past few days.. as most of you know, i got pretty pouty and threw a couple of fits over what i saw as being a wrong direction for the board.
i claimed doom was near, etc.
etc.. i have come to think that this board is very real.

Excellent post Joel. Yes, we are all continuing to develop normal relationships on this board. Normal relationships allow for anger without assuming that it is all or nothing, black or white, good or bad, loyal or disloyal to the Big-O. Rather, we can be human, and after debate, sometimes heated arguments, we can smaile and still be friends and be the better for it. Freedom may have a price, but what we have it worth every last cent we pay to be truly free. As Martin Luther King said, Free at Last! Free at Last!, Oh thank God we are Free at Last!!! - Amazing

Brief PS: I have not forgotten about the special event at Pentecost where the first disciples got tongues of fire on their heads and spoke in tongues. they also cured the sick and raised the dead. My discussion above is all about JW Anointing as it has developed from the late 1800s to the present and my own personal experience. If God zaps me with a tongue of fire ... I will be the first to get a polariod shot, scan it, and post it here for you all. - Amazing
