I have worried about this in the past, having family members involved. But in all honesty I think the organization will just progressively become more and more mundane. This is what has happened to all other religions in the past of a similar size. I wouldn?t be surprised to see more fundamental offshoots of the Witnesses though. These are the ones more likely to do something scary.

What if it got scary?
by Taylor S. inthe lovely jbeanz brought up the peoples temple in the my book of bible stories thread.
the jonestown tragedy ... images of which i'll never get out of my head.
then in other threads we've talked about mounting scandels of the jw's, losing young believers, older members having doubts, doctinal switcheroos, the ever-increasing threat of the internet .... .... it all makes me wonder: .

What do you think should be the legal minimum age for drinking?
by jeanniebeanz in.
do you think that the government should be involved at all, or should this be a parental/individual decision?

From the age of about 14/15 I was able to buy alcohol from corner shops in my area, everyone did. I can say from my own experience drinking alcohol at this age on the streets led directly to crime.
I do think that a relaxed view of alcohol in the home to a point is healthy. I would always tend to gravitate towards things my parents banned outright. It is however always hard to find the balance in these areas.
On the whole I do think the government need to set an age limit outside of the home but not as high as it is in America. -

?I can't stand London, it's full of pretentious tossers who think they are really "IT?
I hate this kind of statement; yes London is full of a lot of ?IT? people. That?s what happens in great world cities. The intelligent and wealthy gather there. But poor and ordinary people live there also.
I think London is one of the best cities in the world. It?s a Shame those in other parts of the UK fail to see it. -

Do you hide apostate literature on your computer?
by JH in.
i was wondering how many here take special precautions, like deleting internet files and clearing your internet history, so that no one else may use your computer and find out that you're visiting apostate forums and reading apostate literature.. maybe some won't even put a jwd icon on their desktop, just incase a jw family member could see it.. .

Just had to about 5 minutes ago when showing my mum some emails she wanted to see. She caught me on the hop, had to make an excuse to get her out of the room while I change one or two things on my desktop.

Yes, I live within 20 miles of where I grew up. I like where I live it?s a small pretty village with next to no crime and a good community spirit, yet I can hop on a train (station 2.5 miles away) and be in central London in 30 minutes, Best of both worlds.
I did move away to Devon for a few years but on the whole hated it. I lived in a tourist town by the sea, boy where the people there small minded and what with all the Grockals(Sp) (endearing name given to tourists by locals) doing the everyday business of life during the summer was a nightmare.
I would like to live abroad for a few years, just to experience different cultures. I think I will always be drawn back to my roots in the end. -

Mmmm?this is interesting because I have no problem with seeing such images in the news as a result of war, crime etc. I just find it offensive when it is used as entertainment
