toronto scientists cure disease in mice.
tom blackwellnational postfriday, december 15, 2006in a discovery that has stunned even those behind it, scientists at a toronto hospital say they have proof the body's nervous system helps trigger diabetes, opening the door to a potential near-cure of the disease that affects millions of canadians.. diabetic mice became healthy virtually overnight after researchers injected a substance to counteract the effect of malfunctioning pain neurons in the pancreas.. "i couldn't believe it," said dr. michael salter, a pain expert at the hospital for sick children and one of the scientists.

sooner or later a person has to face his or her demons.
regarding certain jehovah's witness doctrine.
They are not truly concerned with health matters at all. For them to even mention 'side effects' from a blood transfusion is ludicrous and self-serving. I take 3 Rx's that list hundreds of 'side effects', including death on each of them. The point is...blood, like Rx's is a medicine...for most people it saves their lives, cures or at least moderates our ailments.
My Mom had health issues that were taken care of, all except for a lack of red blood cells in her body. The hospital had plenty of red blood cells ready to give her, but, were forbidden to do so. The HLC was there to make sure Jah would 'smile' at her faithfulness.
My Mom slowly smothered to death -- right before my eyes. Blood would absolutely have saved her. If she had contracted a disease, however unlikely, they would have treated her for it.
Either way, she'd lived a much longer life with the blood transfusion. Without it -- she died.
The WT is not "right", they are responsible for her death. To me, the GB bears the same guilt, as if one of them had used their own hands to cover her mouth and nose to deliberately snuff out her life.

boy who lost leg in shark bite refused transfusion.
I remember hearing the JW's whispering things...
I do, too. When my JW Mom died 'faithful' for not taking that life giving blood.
My JW siblings and others were all comforting each others 'Bible trained' consciences by repeating their WT mantras:
Fantasy: "We'll see her in Paradise, if we stay faithful like her."
Reality: We could talk to her now -- that's a sure thing.
Fantasy: "You know Jehovah is smiling, happy and SO proud -- she never gave up her faith!"
Reality: That's one of those universal religious dogmas that helped me lose faith.
Fantasy: "There's always the resurrection ! "
Reality: Pie in the sky.
Fantasy: "I'm so proud of her..."
Reality: Well...that one's true and I think they almost yearn for their chance to make Jehovah "smile" ensuring their ticket to Paradise.
I wonder if Jah was testing that 15 y/o boys faith by sending His agent, the shark, to administer the exam? I can just see the gleam in the Big Guys eyes sitting around with his best angel death squads saying, " OK, watch this JW kid having fun in the surf...see my shark ?" CHOMP! "OK...I've got a $1000 bill here that says he's gonna make me smile...any takers? Michael ? Satan...come on...put up or shut up..."
Jah smiled again.

as i mentioned before in another thread, my dub aunt, along with several other witnesses, told me that they were specifically told that the governing body let it be known that tract work would trigger the beginning of the end by infuriating the other religions and somehow causing the governments to "turn on babylon the great".
this was supposed to start before the end of this year.
one thing i mentioned is that they were smart enough this time, not to put anything down in writing, but simply let it get around by "word of mouth".
Awww...Brownboy...what did you go do that for ? Ya' know better. I know ya' get lonely sometimes and need to talk to folks, but, 'multiples' ain't the way to do it.

i find the term apostate used freely towards those who have left the org, by both witnesses hiding and also ex witnesses calling themselves that.
don't you find that offensive.
i have been out for over 6 years and the last thing i consider myself is an apostate.
Auldsoul
I do not view them calling me an apostate as a badge of honor. Whatever their opinion of me is, it is based on the teachings of a negligible religious book publishing company, not on their personal knowledge of me nor on whether or not I believe anything that is factually or Scripturally in error. I consider their viewing me as an apostate as an insult because that is how they intend the term. I consider it a defamation of my character because that is how they intend the term. I accept the label in the wicked and abusive spirit they intend by its use.
Of course, it's an insult when it comes from JW mouths.
From my mouth, speaking about myself, "it's a badge of honor". I am "standing apart from" the WTS's teachings -- that's an apostate's decision and the proper definition. (from a dictionary -- not the WT)

Your description of all those elders ganging up on your friend makes me sick. To me, it basically amounts to a bunch of self-appointed guardians relishing an opportunity to exert a form of angry authority, while also demonstrating in front of each other how very UN-homosexual they themselves were.
That's my feeling, too. I only heard the details last year. When my friend told me what each of the elders said, as they took their stabs, I was truly shocked and saddened. One of my best friends, the elder who had studied with me was one of the worst behaved in that little room.
Interestingly, he told me another elder had recused himself from the JC. I don't know what reason he gave, but, privately he had told my friend that before he became a JW...he "...had struggled with homosexuality."
As much of a guilty conscience as I had over turning over my friend, I wonder if any of the elders at the JC just 'went along with the flow' of the hard-liners for their own sake and later had 2nd thoughts? I do know they never attempted any of their 'required' annual shepherding calls to check on him. So, maybe they felt nothing but pride in a job well done.
I am so glad I never was an elder, I would be haunted big time sitting in judgment like that with such a biased mind. Justice in a JC is certainly not blind justice.

So please let me make plain that--outside of any governmental, religious or societal pressure--to the degree that there may be homosexuals who actually might be interested in such a study, giving them access to it (I think) could be a good thing.
I'm sorry, I did not mean to imply you thought any differently. I agree everyone should have access to any & all information about what makes people tick. Nobody should decide for others what is so very personal.
My interest in this subject began in 1974, just before Armageddon. I found out one of my ten fellow regular pioneers -- was gay! He was one of my good friends...and as fast as I could get to a telephone...I reported him to the Elders. They made mince meat out of him quickly, within a week he was DF'd.
Fast forward to 2005: During all those years I never heard another word about him. Except for the sneers of self-righteousness from JW's who knew about his fall from the favor of God ...and everyone knew. The Elders made sure of that.
It took a few years, but, I began to worry about my former friend...he already suffered from depression and I was fearful my actions may have pushed him over the edge. I was afraid he had committed suicide. I began trying to find him -- to assuage my growing guilt that I could have had a big part in the destruction of someones life. I betrayed something that a friend had told me in confidence.
I could never find anything about him, even in internet searches I did. Finally , 1 year ago, he replied to an E-mail inquiry I had put out looking for someone who might have known him! He was alive! When he saw my name, he later told me, he almost did not reply -- get this -- he thought I might be part of some Jehovah's Witness 'Outreach' Program, trying to get him to come back ! LOL ! I explained, "No-no, not that -- ever!". I was rather eat-up with the JWism cancer back then.
I explained that I simply wanted to apologize to him for what I'd done those many years ago. He accepted that graciously and explained he never had blamed me...he knew I was just following a faithful JW's orders.
What he'd been thru was horrendous, tho'. My friend had been a true believer and it turned out he had always been gay. The Elders promised him a "cure" by becoming a JW, obviously it didn't work. At his inquisition JC, 4 extra elders showed up...to tell him what an awful, pitiful human he was and declared that, "Jehovah himself has turned his back on you...and with Armageddon SO close, you would be better off dead! That way you might have a chance in the resurrection!"
As a true believer, he took that seriously (that Jah turned his back) and so wracked with guilt, he tried suicide numerous times. With all hope taken away, he fell into alcohol & drugs, where he stayed for 15 years. Eventually he got clean, joined AA and has been sober ever since. He works as a counselor, helping addicts and alcoholics now.
Guess what? He's still gay! And I'm happy & proud to have him as my friend -- again.
I learned a good lesson about meddling in others personal issues and in keeping a confidence. I also learned that turning in friends to the elders was not 'a good, loving thing' like I'd been taught, the elders were there to judge & punish not to help. I thought they would 'help' him. I learned that I'd set myself up as a judge, too.
Nevermore, nevermore...
By bringing attention to an underdog group of peoples plight -- for being their natural selves is the very least I can do, in some small way, to make up for my past bad behavior. Or, at least to make others think about the possible results of their "good intentions."
The social pressure is horrendous on these people from many directions, so, I can understand why some may "wish they were not gay." If their situations were different...well, that's up to them.
