Have you found a new bible translation you like?

i know, it seems like half of everyone that leaves turns athiest.... but for those of us out there, who figure on still being christian, have you found a translation of the bible that you belive lives "up to par"?

i'm really trying to research, but there's so many, i wondered if you had any input!.

I actually purchased quite a few translations prior to my WTBTS fade. I cross referenced and read in context, every scripture the Society used in their publications for months, it took hours a day. I found that most of the newer translations I got ahold of were very similar, the ones that varied from this norm were the NWT, KJV and the Douay. The one I found myself using most often was the NIV.

I agree with what most here are telling you. Do a little research. There are some excellent translations available. Find one that gets good reviews from the people who are capable of doing the scholarly translations. I think religious agenda dosen't really play much of a role in the NIV and others like it. Professors are too concerned with their reputations to skew translations.

"I am looking into buying what is called "The Jefferson Bible"" Best selling point of the Jefferson Bible was it's carry weight, well that and it's the most environment friendly version. Very light and very ecological without all those extra pages Jefferson considered irrelevant. Didn't he pretty much tear out any page that didn't contain a "Jesus" quote? It might have somewhat limited appeal to most religions today though, kinda of hard to scripture twist when you cut most the fat out.

I just replaced my garbage disposal...

it must be saturday night the highlight of my week was replacing my garbage disposal...it went out last week along with my refrigerator (replaced that last weekend a whole nother story) anyway poked my head under the sink and said "i can do that"...i like to think myself as mechanically inclined but after a week driving truck that is the last thing i wanted to do but the disposal cost me $118 and they wanted another $95 to install it...so i dove in and did pretty well untill it was time to lock the disposal ring into the setting...i tried and tried and tried and the mother ****** would not go on...i grabbed me a martini and said ok i'll finish tomorrow when it hit me i was trying to twist the damn thing the wrong way and as simple as that i did it...i am so proud of me.........

Construction Electrician here, I long ago lost count of the jobsite mechanical challenges that were solved once I "walked away from the problem" and popped open a cold beer (at home of course).

...and like hillbilly says, when you are upside down looking at something that is right side up...dang something that appears to be simple can be irritating. I still find myself having to repeat the mantra "Righty tighty, lefty loosey", when trying to thread things together whilst standing on my head.

young people really suck the life into you.....and me with a housefull of dfd kids......bonfire.....guitars....and chicks with nipple rings.....whew....life it too good.....can send sunset pics from last night fishing just offshore from the island too.....damm.....just....damm....i am so afraid my jw wife is not going to know what hit her.....kinda like [email protected].

too bad wifey had to do that sad...special assmbly day.......damm.

wearing very comfortable clothes after each day of the District Assembly

suppose a jw decided to change clothes to very comfortable clothes after each day at the district assembly, how would the elders react?

They still have District Assemblies? Doesn't the net eliminate the need for everyone to *physically* travel to one location to receive pertinent information?

Sheesh, and especially with the current fuel shortage...my neighbors are doing everying they can to CONSERVE fuel...I'm sure the WTBTS is advising the same...the info just must not have filtered down yet.

OR! Perhaps they struck oil the WT Farm and it's yet to be announced.

Orrrr, they can't humble themselves enough yet to admit the Mormon bicycles beat them by a few years.

600 bottles of water on the wall

while renovating a house i found 600 2-liter bottles (empty soda or pop plastic bottles depending on where you are from) filled with water in the basement on shelves.

the former owner was a world war 2 marine who passed away.

there was no indication he was a survivalist such as canned goods stored there..

WWII Marine?

Many of the campaigns were plagued with supply problems. Some wounded Marines died more from lack of water than medical aid. If I remember correctly Tarawa's Marines were supplied with tainted water before they even landed. Anyone who has gone past the typical government rhetoric concerning what the Marines had to endure through the horrific Pacific Campaign would figure that that pood sod was still suffering from his combat experiences. He was one of the few that lived through the madness, but he still perhaps had the nightmares.

A wounded man loses blood, and requires water. Screams of the dying on the battlefield that can't be provided with the water they crave has to haunt anyone who hears the pleas for years, if not life.

I think everyone who votes for his country to go to war should go with the troops, or personally go to support the troops...cooking, carrying WATER, etc. None of this private contractor bs. If a country decides to go to war, then EVERYONE goes.

Yeah, a new low in American antics.

What really irritates me is the people in my neighborhood (middle class America) that think it's just anti Bush rhetoric as Bush would NEVER condone such things as he is a Born Again Christian.

Justice would suggest we waterboard Bush to determine who in his administration is complicit. Then proceed to turn them over to the families of the US soldiers that they have killed and maimed. Isn't that kinda OT justice?

Feeling really sad and missing my family.

i really feel i have no one to turn to who understands other than you guys of course.

i'm just really sad and crying a lot and missing my whole extended familly who are all witnesses.

i basicly have me my husband and two kids and my 2 sisters who are out.

Glad you said it, before I had time to do so. Now I don't feel so much like the heartless beast. This life isn't always easy, people aren't always kind. Find the good, split from the bad. Just like gardening. Well except for squash though...real dilemma that one is.

If you were Jehovah, how would you prepare your tofu?

OK, so if I were Jah I'd saute some garlic and onion in a fresh local Olive Oil. I'd drop in the tofu cubed to simmer while adding fresh spinach and basil. All of that I'd toss into a fresh tortilla which I would seriously ZAP! With lightening.

Message being, "Aw, don't be pissed at me Wings...I can COOK!"

and...if you still wanna be pissed...I can cook OTHER things with lightening you know...
