Used to be but not anymore when it comes to JW's. Out in the real world? Well...I think I need to work on that!

Can you keep a secret?
by doodle-v inare you a good keeper of secrets are are you a blabbermouth?.
has someone ever told you "you have to promise not to tell a soul!!
did you promise?

I can keep a secret. Sometimes it's tempting to tell my husband, but I try to think how I would feel if the other person told my secret to her husband. I've been the keeper of a few secrets that will go to the grave with me!

What is your outlook on life now?
by Puternut injust curious to see, how some of you who have been out recently, or out for a very long time, have gone on with your outlook on life.
do you still believe in the bible?
do you still cling to some of the 'old' teachings?

I will never be part of organized religion again. When I first got out, I still believed in God for a long time. I wanted to believe he was different from what I was raised to see him as. But now I do have those doubts if there really is a god. A well written story of men long ago, like poets. They wrote some pretty hard to understand stuff and beautiful too. Is that all the bible is? I beginning to wonder.....
Being a good person and taking care of my family is the most important thing to me now. I feel closer to one of my big oak trees in my yard than god. At least the oak gives me shade in the summer and something beautiful to look at. I don't get anything from god.......

Does your past define you?
by Princess inthey were discussing this on the radio this morning.
are you defined by what you have done in your past, or is it the present experiences that define you?.
the dj and tracey lawrence (country singer) were trying to emphasize that we are defined by what we do now as opposed to our past.. are we as a group here an exception?

I'm with you Sassy. You can't change the past. It stays with you and you can't keep looking back wondering what you might have been or done. I think my past helped me to be more independent. I was always a follower and never questioned. Now I am very independent and making my life what I want it to be. As much as I dislike the way I was brought up in the religion, I'm going to try to go on and not use it for a crutch. But we all know........it's very hard to do sometimes.

I loved your story!!! Stories like yours are what bring people out of their shell. Most who are lurking must feel fear to stay in the walls of the WT. But to read a story like yours is a big inspiration to them. You sound so confident. I wish I had more of that!

hello everyone
by itsallgoodnow inmy first post here - - wanted to give my story, too.
raised a jw, stayed in out of fear, painted myself into a corner and currently struggling to get out completely.
i know lots of people would say they don't respect someone who knows they don't want to stay but is staying for other reasons, like family & friends or whatever.

Shunned by Family
by happyagain inso here's a question, where does the bible say god wants you to completely disown a family member for chosing to leave the congregation?
is that the god we have been taught to know?
how can they go from door to door trying to save strangers, when infact they don't even talk to there own family?

Welcome Happyagain!
I often thought about my own Mom. How can she love me all those years and then suddenly just shut it off.....just because I don't want to believe what she wants me to believe? How can they be so cruel? How can you stop loving someone like turning off a water valve?
