Just had a thought. Is there any link at all to that horrendous bombing at Casula? They never got the guy but the police knew who it was but not enough evidence. That guy's wife and kids were hidden by congregation after congregation and he just went (or was anyway) psycho.

Thanks Ozziepost. That was my old congregation from which I did thousands of hours of faithful, zombie like service. I've shed no tears.

Do you have to be part of organized religion?
by trumind inok. this is my first thread and i am very interested to see the kinds of responses i get.
my question to you all is do you beleive you have to be a member of some type of organized religion in order to have god's approval?
i was raised in jw household, never baptized.

Joelbear,
I feel your comment re organisations is quite a broad generalisation. Organisations, any organisation, political, medical, religious, unions etc. initially start off with the aim or concept of gathering support for a particular issue. As the organisation develops and the infrastructure gets more complex and larger, more and more energy is put into the maintenance of the organisation and it can lose it purpose or promotion of its cause or the support of the people it was supposed to serve.an organisation, any organisation does not necessarily have to interfere with your relationship with God provided that one keeps God and the organisation distinct. It is when you merge the two that one gets into trouble. It is my experience of 20 years of leaving the JWs that I have been very wary of falling into the trap of another organisation taking over where the JWs left off. Yes, I attend church but am fully alert and aware of the distinction between God and the church where I happen to fellowship at. If the church or denomination would disappear tomorrow, it would not phase me or any of the Christians who attend in the least, as our faith is NOT in the church/organisation/group but in Jesus. It is the Christians within the local church that have provided the critical support, debriefing, learning to trust again, providing a "family" since our disfellowshipping from the JWs.

The mindset of another Religion. The SDA Church
by barry inwhen a minister skied to church, his board of elders accused him of desecrating the sabbath.
''why mom,ye skied on the lord's holy day,'' said one of the elders.
the minister protested; but that was the only way i could have come to services.

Stealth,
The original Jewish sabbath was from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. After Jesus died Christians got together on Sunday which was the resurrection day. Sunday, should never have been called the Sabbath, it was never introduced to replace the Sabbath. But.....over time it became a substitute sabbath for the general church population over the centuries. When the SDA's started in the 1840's, from which the JW's split from later, they took a view of the Law of Moses that was literalistic, and legalistic and kept their religious day on Saturday. -

Hi Tru, like the others posted so far to your question "to have Jehovah's love"... the answer is no. Jehovah's love was never dependent on being attached to an organised religion. Organised religion is mechanistic, established by men apparently ? to meet its members' needs or to be more ? effective ? efficient? ?? to have control over, and direct the masses by those who ??know better as to what God may want from us.
If I'm not reading too much into it, perhaps your question was "Does God have an organised religion to represent him?" When one becomes a child of God you become part of his family - which is not an organised religion but a relationship with God and of necessity brothers and sisters.

Through questions mainly. When a four scripture sermon starts, after the 1st scripture and then they flip to the 2nd (with a coherent connective sentence naturally) I asked them to go back to the 1st because I can't see the connection with the context of the 1st and what's been read with the 2nd. I continually ask them to outline the context - to whom was it written, etc. I use terms like "but that is not actually what the Bible says, it's your interpretation, now your interpretation may be right and a very good interpretation, I'm not arguing that at the moment, but I just want to see what the Bible in actually says". By this time, they are advising me they don't want to argue with me. I explain I'm not arguing but need clarification, that they appear to me to be jumping from Scripture to Scripture which is not making sense to me and I just need help in seeing the jumps. I haven't had a complete "sermon" yet. It was interesting seeking clarification when I was speaking with a Mormon, (not knowing much at all about their beliefs) and just asking for clarification, pushing his belief to its logical conclusion. He only became pale and sweaty when I asked him "what is his faith if his church disappeared overnight?" I haven't been able to get that far with a dub yet.

Hi Jang,
Sorry to have missed another Sunday BBQ in downtown Sydney. We will catch up with you again (after 20 years?) some other time. Mr & Mrs Ozziepost have been a source of enjoyment and fun. Cheers
