Good one Norm. We must have had an unseemly number of Brother Some and Sister Some. I recall Farmer Some who didn't plant his potato crop in 1974 as there would be no harvest in 1975. And the PO Some, he left his Senior job with the municipal council at the end of 1974 to go pioneering with his 5 children, he ended up cleaning butchers's shops. Then of course there was Families Some 1 & 2 and 3 who all went back to their homeland, sold their houses, late 1973 to spend all their cash during 74, generally have a good time before Paradise started. The WT is just so right about these somes! Heavens knows where they got these ideas from, it certainly wans't SOME brother in Bethel, not in Australia anyway....

Brother "Some"
by Norm inthe elusive brother some and the watchtower society.. in brooklyn , they have for years been bothered by a shady and very mystical brother.
they usually call him some.
we receive constant reassurances from the watchtower that what is printed in the literature is the truth.

Cult Fighters are short sighted fools
by proplog2 inthe anti-cultists are narrow minded and uninformed to say the least.. you see a lot of this here.
it is mostly a cover for irrational hatred.
most religions organized in a way that they expected their members to take their beliefs seriously.

Re this discussion on cults. Isn't there a definition of a cult as opposed to just going along (even without thinking) with anything? I recall years ago looking at the steps of brainwashing, if I remember correctly the JWs had 10 or 11 out of the 12. The only aspect they didn't have was to actively put people into a destabilised state (except that many people are just found that way) in their poaching work. ie have had a major crisis within the last two years, death in family etc. thoughts please.

Hi Tatiana,
Heard of a most interesting experience, sorry about that word. A friend of ours who is a local minister (of one of Babylon the Great's churches) found out that the local muslim mulla's house had been attacked during the night with bottles and rocks. Our friend, rang, only his wife was home, but offered to have the family stay in Babylon the Great's own home as long as it was needed for his family to be safe. The mulla turned up on our friends doorsteps in tears, saying that he thought that Christians hated Muslims and was just so overwhelmed that he had offered his home to the "devil" as he called himself, as this is what he believed all Christians viewed any Muslim. Who knows how many Muslims may find freedom for themselves as well through all this tragedy. Cheers. -

Tatiana, akin in your feelings on those movies, affects me in the same way. I have taken the liberty of sending you via email a lovely set of sayings with slides a nursing colleague sent me today. Timely reminder and soothing reflections. Anne

Anyone up on witness dogma?
by FrightMare inanyone here know if witnesses are allowed to serve in the military?
i know they're not allowed to fight in war, but are they allowed to be chefs for soldiers, for example.. when cornelius became christian, the bible doesn't say that he left his military career.. furthermore, matthew 5:41: "if someone in authority impresses you for a mile, go with him two miles.".
any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Little Toe, UNREAL. I recall that one poor sod of a JW went to the JC to confess he had taken blood. He said he was truly sorry. Unfortunately, some bright spark asked him "will you do it again?" and the twit said YES - so in their mercy they promptly disfellowshipped the cad. Can all these JWs who were wrongfully d/f make compensation claims for loss of loved ones? Or is this not retrospective?

Take Me Back, Sorry Sorry Sorry Sorry
by Englishman inwell, today is sunday which means it's the watchtower study.
yipee!.
seriously there, folks, i just bet that there are record attendances today as all the fringers and umperty-jumps scuttle back to their kh's in terror of having made a wrong decision.

Englishman, whilst the emotion is fear that drives them back. I think at the end of the day it is because people who leave JWs or other cults need DEprogramming. It's interesting that we have met up with people who left the org 15 - 20 years ago, but set of a trigger word and you would swear they had read the latest WT! They still live in constant terror of Armageddon with the extra slow, crisp fry option with fries. I am sure if I tried hard I could whisk up a 4 Scripture sermon again, although ozzie post tells me the slacko's have reduced this to a 1 scripture, or was that a 1 minute sermon.

What My JW Family Members say....is this typical?
by dins ini went to see my grandmother today, who has been a jw pioneer for going on 60 years and is still pioneering.
this is what she told me.. she said that they had their one-day assembly yesterday and that attendance was high.
she said that there was someone there from bethel in ny, who told everyone his experience of the attack on tuesday.

Well that's another #million Awakes to be sold @ ? how much a copy. JWs could not "sell" their message without all the literature. JWs are only one of or the biggest printing company in the world. Take their literature away, and what would you have left? A 10 minute Bible reading once a week? A hard road ahead of you. We had our JW in laws living with us at the time - we just kept feeding them with evidence of what corruptions the Scty had been involved in since its beginnings - they were d/f one year later. My family - totally opposite. You could not have a conversation without getting heated and into a drama. My father even said that if the WT green Bible was wrong - then Jehovah was a liar? So in the end left them alone. There is no one answer or direction. Each situation is unique Cheers

Dungbeetle, (incidentally very valuable creatures) there are more rules here than the Scribes and Pharisees made up concerning the Sabbath!!

Little Toe, what new stance on blood. Must have missed that one. Do we remove all those bulky "how to" manuals from our ER now?
