Ask seller if they are willing to ship your package Media Mail. Shipping should only be about $2.00 at most (depending on the weight of the box and where it's going) I do not agree with sellers who inflate their shipping prices. The only way I can deal with a "handling" charge is if the item requires special packaging such as glass or over-sized stuff. I think the sellers who start their auctions off at a penny charge are of course betting the auction will go up but if it does not they charge the extra shipping so they can cover the cost of their auction posting, final value fee and if buyer pays with Paypal, they are charged a fee for that.

Prices of 8-Tracks on the rise!
by Nosferatu inlast night, i stopped in at a thrift store called "value village" just to see if they had anything to waste my hard-earned money on.
i came to the 8-track rack and found a copy of fleetwood mac's first album.
of course i grabbed it and walked up to pay for my item.. i nearly shit myself when i was charged $1.06 (including tax)!

Ahhhh! Now I understand why my JW mother-in-law felt it was "extremely important" to write out a $500 check to WTS for the newly renovated KH (even though the materials that were used "look cheap and shoddy") when she can't seem to come up with the money to pay the taxes on her house. She was complaining about having to pay for her "magazines" now. I'm not sure if her mag subscriptions were gratis but she sure was kicking up a fuss when she received some sort of bill for them!

MY SHORT BACKGROUND
by moses inwell i must say that i am glad that i found this site it is amazing all the things that i found that i have in common,it seems that the same problems and feelings are the same all over.
i can remember growing up as a jw although i never got baptized all the hypocrisy in the congregation especially amongst the elders children they were worse than the wordly children at school,we tried hard to stick to the truth my mom was a single mom and she did her best to raise us in the truth my mom is still in but as never given me any pressures i will attend an occasional meeting but that is about it, it seemed that everybody was always waiting for you to stumble or do somthing bad so that they could gossip anways this is my story in short, the jws are definetly a tough club to belong to although in the beginning they make everything look so rosy.

I agree. My observation is they care only about the JWs in their immediate family or clique. All others are game to be verbally hung, drawn and quartered at will. Very sad. They feel they have license to judge just about everyone except maybe those who intimidate them (elders?)

I am a new member too! I read your post and had to write. I hear my JW mom-in-law and her JW friends gossiping viciously all the time about this one and that one in their congregation. Geez, it's worse than high school! I also hear them congratulating themselves on how they are "better" witnesses than these younger generation ones. Keep in mind she's in her 70's so "younger generation" can be late 60's and down. Talk about that sisterly love! Anyway, welcome! This site is excellent!

I sell on Ebay and the 8-track "market" definitely depends on the artist and rarity of the title. I got some good prices for sealed T-Rex and Kiss tapes but the best strategy for buying (and selling them) is in a large group with at least 5 or 6 good titles you actually want. They can be shipped Media Mail for cheaper (but slower) shipping rates. Avoid the sellers who pump up their postage costs to make an extra few bucks. Reel To Reels are very hot and I got some nice prices for Lou Reed, The Who and Hendrix. Get up early and hit the garage sales! You'll find tons of crap you never knew you needed!

Hi!
I'm a new member and my husband is an ex-JW but his mom and others in their family are still in the "anything but the truth" big-time. I like to know more about the WTS so I can understand why they behave in certain ways and believe the things they do. This site is totally amazing and the people here are very warm and friendly. I always have to add that my brother is a moonie too because I find these cults run parallel to each other on so many levels. The deception and control have different methods but end up with the same sad results. I hope the fog will clear for at least one of my family members so they can get their lives back. Enjoy and learn from this site! Thanks all!

That was beautifully written, Sentinel! I see my mom-in-law in her JW bubble and she's perfectly happy there in her fantasy world. She has alienated her children and then frets why "they do not seem to care about me like my sisters and brothers do". She is the classic "smile in your face and rip up your heathen worldly butt behind your back" JW. Her children have heard over and over how they are "a constant source of disappointment" in her life because they all left the WT. A cousin of hers (also a JW) has 2 "pioneering" children and that vile woman is constantly bragging how none of her children have ever strayed from "the truth". She also makes a point to mention how my mom-in-law's children were never really "one of them". Totally nauseating! Boy, when a bunch of her so called sisters and brothers get together, all they do is poke fun and sneer at other religions and the non-believers while laughing and whooping it up! I have never seen such ugly behaviour in religious people before. Not even my brother (a moonie) will ridicule other religions like this group of JWs do. They seem very gleeful thinking that all the non-believers will die soon. This includes her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Any wonder as to why we have trouble caring about her feelings?! We still take care of her though! Shop, cook, clean! Worldly people are good for something!
