I was wondering for about a week or so, if anyone has done any research on the number of early Christians? Here is why.
Last week I looked up the number of anointed still on Earth and in 1935 there were 52 465. Using that number you have to assume that about 91 500 slots are left open for early Christians, who the WT says were all anointed, and any others who still need to be found in the past, and or future.
If we can add up all of the numbers some how it would either be more, or less then the magic 144 000. What that number honestly is, I imagine would be quite telling about the doctrine regarding this magic 144 000.
I also have to wonder, when exactly the cut of period for early anointing of Christians happened.

Circumcision and the WT
by Sangdigger inwhile discussing the old law and circumcision today with a friend, it hit me that i had never heard the wts say anything about its modern day practice, but only discussed the historical part of it.
but considering how they love to spout out streams of knowledge concerning everything there is to know, i couldnt help but think somewhere in the last century or so, they either condoned it, or condemned it.
(of course based on the current light at the time) .

Here are some numbers I got from the WT CD
Year # of Partakers
1935 52465
1965 11550
1974 10723
1987 8808
1995 8645
2001 8730
2003 8565
I find it hard to believe that in almost 20 years, the numbers haven't really changed all that much.

Explain you religion/beliefs in a nutshell
by devinsmom inlately i have been pondering my lack of a belief system.
i think that being a jw really turned me off to believing in anything since it was all crammed down my throat.. i have been feeling a need to believe in something.
i think i believe that something created us but not sure if it was one god or many.

Watchtower play on words
by Jahna ini was looking at the aug 1, 2004 watchtower which discusses government, and on page 6 it basically states that the jw?s provides volunteer relief during times of disaster.
it points to earth quakes in el salvador in 2001 where the world wide brother hood sent not only relief but the jw?s built/repaired over 500 homes and 3 (here is the key phrase) houses of worship.
ok sounds great right, how noble a gesture.

Ok sounds great right, how noble a gesture. But, would the witnesses build/repair houses of worship for other religions? I don?t think so. So they must mean Kingdom Halls. Wonder why they didn?t say that? Obviously because that is only taking care of their own, not the general public as the paragraph alludes to. This one slight change of wording gives the paragraph a whole different meaning. An outsider would read that as, look they helped other religions, in fact a JW could point to that paragraph and say the same thing. All the while I highly doubt that is really what happened. Not in totality anyways.

In Northern New Brunswick we could wear pants in the winter, in service only. It was -40c ! One thing though, had to be under a skirt. Nothing like a skirt with track pants under it! Though they did require panty hose in the summer.
I often wonder, if stocking and garters counted as panty hose.

Stupid Analogies/Illustrations/examples you hear dubs say over and over
by doodle-v inwhat are some stupid analogies that you here dubs use all the time to explain their faulty, destructing teachings?
or maybe ones you've used in the past that when you think about them now, make you cringe?.
here are a few that come to mind:.

The dent in the bread pan one. You know where Adam and Eve are the dented bread pan and now we all are dented.
That one lead me to find a witness in the most bizarre of places online. And I wasn?t even using it in the JW context!

How far back are j.w.'s allowed to research the w.t. doctrine?
by hubert in's research russel's and rutherford's teachings once they are baptized?
if not, where in their material does it instruct them not to?
how far back are they "allowed" to research?

Hello Blondie
Actually they do go faithfully to meetings. What I think happens to a lot of them (the general average JW) is that meetings are so darn repetitive that you ?think? your paying close attention to it, but in reality your brain is just glancing at it because you already know (err in this case think you know) what it?s going to say. I think that is how I missed the generation change, and how my parents missed the details of blood fractions, I haven?t got up the courage yet to discuss the generation issue. The blood and old doctrine/apostate issue was enough for one day.
Then again I am just guessing.

Hello Dan
Actually I had a similar conversation this past week on this. It's kind of confusing but according to my parents, it's not disfellowshiping per say, (you can choke now), it's a matter of conscience. (I am choking now). Here is how it works:
You can accept blood then beg for forgiveness. You heard it, I can't believe it either.
In my mind if it is a matter of personal conscience then begging forgiveness and repenting is not required. While it wasn't discussed I think this is a way for the publisher to have a "weak moment" and accept blood, while not being disfellowshipped. It's a great out. (It also legally takes the blame off of the WT.)
Then again since she didn't know about accepting blood fractions (which is a conscience matter) without begging forgiveness, I am not quite sure the average publisher knows exactly what is allowed.

Further to Blondie's comment, just this week, I accidentally mentioned Russell's vaccine comments to my mother. Well after looking shocked, and critical, she asked where I got that. I told her from the WT publication. She then asked where I got it as "you know on the Internet there are apostate renditions of them. You do know what an apostate is don't you." (Can I begin to roll my eyes now?) So I guess the official dogma is, don't try and obtain "older" books off of Ebay or any place else, they come from apostates.
Does that kind of limit how far back you can go? It's also quite convenient for the WT to ban obtaining books this way, that makes them near impossible for Joe Publisher to get their hand on them and check for themselves the information. I would think doubting Joe Publisher would be more inclined to look at older issues of the WT publications then for instance any other "apostate" book. Makes you wonder, if the WT really wants publishers to actually research their own history, or just rely on their interpretation of it?
Naa don't bother answering that one, we know the answer already.
On a side note, she also didn't know about accepting blood fractions. Go figure.
