Observations at a District Convention

i finally got my piece to post about three entries down.

I also noticed several times that the phrase ?raised around the truth? was used instead of ?raised in the truth?. Is this one of their progressive language adjustments, like calling themselves ?Christian Congregation of Jehovah?s Witnesses? instead of ?Watchtower Bible and Tract Society? in official correspondence?

They reference themselves now in letters as the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for legal purposes. In 2000 I believe, when the GB 'officially' stepped down from control of the wtbts, another corporation called the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Inc. was formed to oversee the congregations, elders, DOs, COs etc... So basically they seperated the book publishing corporation from the JWs in the US, mostly for legal purposes. However this is only in the US if I'm not mistaken. Like for example, in Canada, it is still the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Canada Inc. that controls the congregations and all of the other stuff.

As for the language change I don't see much to it. It might be that the speaker just made a mistake in his choice of words. I wouldn't read much into it since the expectations from the kids raised as jws are still the same. "Proper Youth" raised in the "truth" are still supposed to get baptized in their early teens, if not sooner, and are expected to pioneer right out of high school, or as soon as they're done a very quick post secondary course to help them make a living.

I agree with you XQ that this is a stupid article, however I think you need to read more into what the wts is truly saying. When it says:

Although some news reports about Jehovah?s Witnesses are fair

What they really mean is that all news reports that put the Jehovah's Witnesses in a positive light are true.

And when the article states that:

at times the media let themselves be used to broadcast the biased voice of strangers.

Any negative things being said by the media about Jehovah's Witnesses are false, or heavily biased at best.

i dont have much time to watch a lot of tv b/c im so busy w/ work and school but i am obsessed with monk and i have to watch it every friday night.

i even hate making plans friday nights cuz i dont like to miss it...what a dork, i know.

i also like family guy on cartoon network...so hilarious.

For me, I could never miss Alias on sundays....I guess I'm a sucker for spy shows, plus Jennifer Garner is not that bad looking .

I also could not miss the Simpsons, but I was an irregular viewer this past season, and now I'm starting to get hooked on Arrested Development.

Why do X-Witnesses have a higher divorce rate?

some time ago i asked how many of you have divorced to get the idea if x-jws posters have a higher or a lower divorce rate than the general population.

of those who responded 86% have been divorced.

studies show inactive and x- witnesses, not only have a considerable higher rate of divorce than current members, but even higher than of the general population.

i have seen so many stories here that invoke guilt and shame on innocents, what one important momyumental thing would you have changed if you had it to do over?.

mine would be not getting baptized.

Baptist funerals vs. JW funerals

i went to a funeral at a 1st baptist church this past weekend.

it was for the son of a former co-worker.

travis was 18 and was about to start his senior year in high school.

I went to a jw funeral recently...it's quite shocking how similar these things are, although I'll disagree with them making it sound as though it isn't a guarrantee with ressurection. The speaker made it clear they would see the deceased again after the ressurection since the current doctrine is that if you die, all your sins are washed away.

But anyways, I'll go through what happened at the funeral I went to. They first had a small service at the funeral home, where they gave small details about the persons life for 3-4 mins, then the speaker went on to talk about the ressurection for 25 minutes. Then the next day at the funeral, another elder gave the eulogy, and the same thing happened, 5 mins about the person's life, then a good half hour talking about the ressurection hope. Then you'd think people had enough by then, but they had what was the longest prayer ever (You know those really long prayers they have at the end of the DC that last forever, well it was longer then that) basically summarizing what was said in the eulogy. And then they invited those would like to know more about the hope of ressurection to ask a jw for a free personal bible study.

Then you would think people had truly heard enough speeches on the jw ressurection doctrine, at the cemetary, he still gave a little recap on it. So in total, about 8-9 mins were spent talking about the deceased, and well over an hour were spent "teaching" the jw ressurection doctrine.

Gosh, I gringed at the thought of so many teenagers getting baptized. I was 15 when I got dunked and I know for a fact I had no clue of the "importance" , or better yet the signifiance of it all.

That statement is so true. Looking back at when I got baptized, I really had no clue of the importance or the significance of this action. I know at the last assembly I went to, there was this 14 year old kid that gor baptized from my congregation, and I know that he doesn't really know what getting baptized involves. It's sad really.

JWs encouraged to get together and sing or do skits for entertainment. JWs need to learn how to entertain themselves

Well, it looks like the JWs in my area seemed to have had some inside info on what was going to be presented at the DC. A few weeks before the DC, at one of the last witness get togethers I went to, they had a little theatre piece, like the dramas they have at the DC. It seems that this particular theatre group goes around and performs for other congregation in different areas as well. The whole thing was atrocious at best, and the main theme of the story was loyalty to the BORGanization . That's when I knew my stint as a JW was over.

I THINK I'VE FINALLY BEEN PUSHED OVER THE EDGE (aka.... i'm out)

i think that i've finally been pushed off the edge, just imaging me hanging on to the wtbs by one hand, as if i'm hanging off a cliff.

a couple of months ago i was hanging on by two hands, mabey even pulling myself back on the band wagon so to say.

but after finding out about the lies and what goes down in the congregation, with the "young ones" all the hipocracy, i've been reduced to hanging on by a finger, like something out of a wiley e coyote movie, i don't feel like finishing the story tonight, but just some events happened tonight that just pushed me off the edge, i'm closer tonight than i've ever been to saying " screw all of you i'm finished" anyways i'll continue some other time
