I was pretty much raised in it. My mom joined when I was about 6 years old. And now, I'm trying to get out. I wasn't even supposed to finish high school because armaguedon was VERY close. Oh well, soon enough i will have the last laugh.

I really find the wts' answer quite interesting. It's a simple answer to make the R&F go ok, no big deal. They also claimed that the original documents they signed to join as an NGO didn't contain any statements that contradicted the teachings of the JWs. However, any NGO that wishes to be affiliated with the UN must support the principles contained in the UN charter, and distribute information to the public about the UN.

I'm not in Bethel, but I just got it. It's strange in my congregation, sometimes we'll get them a month or 2 in advance, other times we get it a week before the month.
And it's a fact that the wtbts was affiliated with the UN. Personally, there's nothing wrong with being an NGO affiliated with the UN. They do tons of good around the world. The problem here is hypocrisy. They call the UN the 'image of the wild beast', 'disguting thing', 'the product of Satan', yet they have no problem associating with them. Would you associate yourself with something you called a beast, a disgusting thing?
So, would God be pleased that his "true servants" on earth would be associated with an organization that they claim to turn people away from God?*** Watchtower 1999 May 1 p.15 "Let the Reader Use Discernment" ***
8 Demonstrating the confidence of Jehovah's servants that this prophecy would be fulfilled, The Watchtower of January 1, 1921, focused on it in connection with developments in the Middle East. Subsequently, in its December 15, 1929, issue, on page 374, The Watchtower definitively said: "The whole tendency of the League of Nations is to turn the people away from God and from Christ, and it is therefore a desolating thing, the product of Satan, and an abomination in the sight of God." So in 1919 "the disgusting thing" appeared. In time, the League gave way to the United Nations. Jehovah's Witnesses have long exposed these human peace organizations as disgusting in God's sight.

That is a very frightening statistic. A few weeks ago, during the public talk, the elder mentioned the same statistic, and then went on to use that to try and prove how bad the world is, and how much it is a protection to remain part of the organization.

Hey everyone, I haven't posted here as often as I would like, but I've been busy with other stuff. But I noticed something interesting in the km for April. In the section with suggestions for presentations, the one for the May 1st WT. I'm just going to paraphrase it, but it talks about religious leaders who involve themselves with politics in an attempt to improve society in general. It goes on to talk about what Jesus did when he was on earth concerning matters of politics. Considering the wtbts was affiliated with the UN, a political organization, and also their area of interest as an NGO was for human rights, isn't it hypocritical of them to talk down at other religions when they themselves have done the same thing? The more I look into things about the wts, the more they make me sick.

Looking Back, How Did You Really Feel About "The Truth"?
by minimus indid you love it?
were you in awe of it?
were you a true believer?
-

I was a believer. It attracted me for certain reasons, and I put some of the doubts in my mind in the back of my head. Toward my late teens i just went through the motions, and i was guilt tripped into staying. I decided to stick it out to see how things would go.

"They're out to get me!"
by Nan inis it my imagination, or do jehovah witnesses have an "everyone is against me" attitude??
our daughter-in-law (who is a jw) seems to have this mind-set.
whether its getting the car repaired, going to the doctor, work done on the house, etc., they all have "ripped her off".
-
Nocturne
This sounds exactly like my mom. Someone is always out to get her. It's definitely due to the wts' teachings since the entire world is under Satan's influence, therefore everything anyone who isn't a jw does must be bad, or have something wrong with it.

JW cannots........
by Nan ini couldn't believe this list of cannots that jws have to adhere to!
i already knew about the holidays, blood tranfusions, the pledge, etc.
there's maybe one or two that i would agree are for your own good, but the rest are ridiculous!!

Nocturne
Quite a long list. I never really thought about it, but that's alot a stuff JWs can't do. Maybe it would have been quicker to list the things that JWs CAN do. Yep, life as a JW sucks
