Would You Buy Lottery Tickets In Front of a Jehovah's Witness???

When I was still a JW, I did just that. Due to a fight my ex-JW-husband and I had...I bought a lottery ticket....turned around and standing right in front of me was an older "Sister" with her mouth on the floor. Well.....what do you say? "Want to share the profits"?

Anyway, I had to stand there and listen to a 5 minute lecture from her......THEN SHE TURNED ME IN! She told the Elders in her hall, they called the Elders in my hall. After the next Sunday meeting, two Elders approched me and said they needed to talk to me about it. They were really cool about it....in fact they laughed about it with me. Saying that what are the odds that another Witness would be standing right there as I bought the stupid ticket. I should have won with those odds in my favor.

They asked me if I had ever bought a lottery ticket before this one....NO was my answer. They asked me if I was ever going to buy a lottery ticket again....NO was my answer....and they dropped it. But, they DID HAVE to call the Elders in the other hall and tell them they talked to me so they could go back to that Sister and tell her.

Now that I am df'd, I buy lottery tickets weekly.....no matter who is behind me!

Break through !

i have been df'd for about a year and also been going through a nasty divorce.

my ex has the kids and they're all jw's.

so my ex has been pumping into my childrens heads, that since i am df'd, they are to have no contact with me.

How old were you when you left?

i only know a handful of witnesses, but i do know several ex-witnesses.

all of them left in their late teens, which (as i've read here) is pretty common.

i know there are a lot of people here who left later in life.

Still cleaning out some emotional mess from those twenty years, but much better these days reading this board everyday!

You have moved me to tears also Puternut! I too am new to this board (of life) and must tell you...you are not alone. I was a witness for 20+ years, df'd for almost 2. I just located this web site a couple of days ago, signed up and immediately received emails from several people who have gone through and are going through what you and I are. TOTAL SUPPORT...TOTAL UNDERSTANDING!! We all have our stories, we are all going through similar and different ways of getting better. But we ARE getting better!!!!!!!!! It was NOT wasted time! I know at the time, there were many people in the congregation you helped because you truly cared for them. You were doing what you thought was right....I know that, because I thought I was too with every "bible study" I conducted. Obviously we were all as deceived as Eve...........it's going to take time.....

That is right xjw_b12. My husband is not, never was and will never be one of JW's (his words). But my husband does believe in and loves God. WOW.....Thank you all so much!!!!! My husband and I are here reading every response! It is so wonderful to have you all to talk to!!! I will definitely get the books you have mentioned and I will start reading "for myself"! This has helped me so much....it's a great start and I thank you all again. I will be on again very soon!

I just recently came across this web site. Being one of JW's for 20 years, of course I never knew any web sites like this were around. I have been df'd for almost 2 years now and I still can't get it out of my mind that I am going to die. My friends and family who are not, and have not been Witnesses try to assure me that I won't. That a loving God has gotten me out of such a bizzare "religion"! But, as all of you know we were continually told over and over again that if we don't go down that certain path...we will eternally parrish. I have this guilt of raising my son as one of JW's (he still is) and now I'm not. I have guilt that I have turned my back on my friends. I even still have the guilt that I turned my back on God, but I still love and believe in him. On the positive side, I have re-married, and this man loves me more than I have ever experienced before in my life. I am deaply in love with him and I am happier with him and my new life than I ever have before....so what is wrong with me? Why can't I let this go? Why and how did you do that?
