What Is Your Biggest Regret Because You Were a Jehovah's Witness?
by minimus ingrowing up as a witness makes it nearly impossible to deal with the "world", as a child.
constant pressure is put on witness kids to conform.
most lead a "double life" out of necessity.

As Franklin said...no real friendship opportunities....I miss having school ties....I was never allowed to really bond with any of my worldly friends....I wish I could get in contact with some just to let them know what I was going through.
I also missed college...my grandfather would have paid for all 4 years...and my mother would have allowed it, with a 'but if it agrees with your conscience to do so, you can go, just remember what it could do to your spirituality'......if only I were stronger back then with myself....oh well, I did go to pioneer school....

Being a mic runner doesn't account for your character outside a kingdom hall, publishing hours can't be entered on a resume, and fighting a spiritual war won't get you veteran's benifits.
that totally cracked me up....thanks I needed that this morning.

Sun lamps / air purifiers for DEPRESSION....
by logansrun inhello folks,.
i'm curious if anyone here has personal experience with using a sun lamp and/or air purifier for depression.
chicago -- where i live -- is generally a cold and rather gloomy place in the winter.

I have SAD....currently on an anti-depressent....I was fine living in AZ until I moved back up here to Chicago. Today the sun came out for a little bit, so I went for a walk, I've been told to get out atleast for a 30-45 min walk each day even if it is overcast and do not wear dark sunglasses in the winter..the sunlight should penetrate through your eyes (don't look directly into the sun of course). Also, regular exercise should help as well, to atleast get an endorphine boost.
As far as tanning booths....yes they work too.

How many here grew up JW but had worldly friends?
by Jez inmy best friend was worldly all through elementary to high school.
we are still good friends.
i wonder if that led to our being a tad bit more open minded and aided in our exit???

I had worldly friends I hung out with only at school. I was never allowed to do anything with them after school, unless I offered them a study....so this one girl I hung out with down the street, well, I started a study with her.... we didn't do much studying, mostly playing ball in the street, or dancing to music, etc., my mother started to question it, so I had to cut off my playtime with her.
My best friend that I've known since our diaper years was a witness of course, her mom and my mom were best friends. She left 5 years before I did....it was so great to see her again....she lives in the north suburbs, has been re-married has kids like me....and we've just picked up where we've left off.....she also introduced me to my husband now.

menudo(beef tripe soup),
my grandmother would make it for me when I was sick.....blah, the smell is what makes you vomit...sorry.
my favorite food is peanut butter....I could eat it straight from the jar...I get the 25% less fat to make me feel better...it's actually tastier cuz they add more sugar.
I also love choc. covered pretzels, it's that sweet salty combo.

What Are Some of Your Favorite Urban Legends About JWs???
by minimus inperiodically, we post about what we realize were good fables that were spoken as "gospel".
smurfs running up and down the aisles of the hall is a well known one......any you remember???
?

the smurf story was a classic tale one I will never forget.....I was very little and scared to death of smurfs even if the cartoon came on, I'd freak. well, I'm definitely over that one.
The one about the pioneer sisters, I heard another version that went like this....an Avon lady was working the neighborhood the same time rang on that same killers door and was shot dead.....when asked why he didn't kill the Witness lady, he said because of the 2 big guys (angels) were beside her.

What happens when 144K all die?
by M.J. insorry for my ignorance but,.
what is the wts's stance on the dying out "anointed class"?
don't they comprise the "faithful, discreet slave"?
-
Evesapple
I never believed in the 144K.....even growing up, there were too many unanswered questions regarding the number and why it was a number in Revelation taken literal rather than symbolic.....no one had clear answers about it.....it was one of those things most could not explain, just accept....
