Yes! I remember reading that book as a freshman in high school....so sad, and he and that doctor/psycologist have a little affair while his IQ increases, and then they discover he will digress again, because the mouse did...very sad....we watched the movie after reading the book... black and white movie.

Flowers for Algernon - anyone ever read it?
by Sunnygal41 ini remember this from school............it was one of those short stories that were required reading.........i remember being totally swept away by it and deeply saddened by the ending.. .
daniel keyes wrote little sf but is highly regarded for one classic, flowers for algernon.
as a 1959 novella it won a hugo award; the 1966 novel-length expansion won a nebula.

The freedom I now feel was worth all the intense feelings of betrayal and loss, however. I see more beauty around me than I used to, as though the constant focus on the bad drilled into me all those years had hampered my ability to appreciate the good. There are days where I feel blissfully happy (and I never used to describe much of my experience as "blissful"). I'm finally able to go forward with many dreams I put aside because I was told they weren't in line with "god's" purpose for me. Plus, I've found more genuine love in nine months outside the org than in the years I spent on the inside. More than all of this, however, is that now I can be myself... the real me. And it's been a thrill getting to know that person. To quote something I put down in my journal when I was writing myself through the healing process, its been "like catching up with an old friend I've never met."
And to quote another: "I've become what I used to hate, but I love what I've become."
Welcome! Your words are well put! I appreciate and agree with your sentiments precisely! Glad you're here!

Hey! Did you ever wonder how to use a piece of plastic to cover the mags?
by joenobody inhere's a truly weird flash animation demo of "how to use magazine covers".
this is waaaay too bizarre... if anyone is good with shockwave or flash they should do a parody (although the self-parodying nature of this is too much!)..

I don't have any CD's personally...but I love blues, especially in a bar....if ever up here in Chicago, there are some great small, smoky, blues bars, where the audience is up out of their seats.......

My Parents
by StudentofYaweh inis it wrong for my parents to be overprotective?
it's not overprotective like curfews but it's overprotective like they won't let me go anywhere.
they won't even let me go to the beach with sisters!

I was raised in the truth, my parents were very strict....I know I missed out on a lot, but to be honest with you....I'm glad they were so strict, there were a lot of bad kids where I grew up....I'm not so strict with my daughter, I raise her differently, but I keep everything open as far as communication....I understand the dangerous potentials......I will not allow her to roam off anywhere on her own nor with another girlfriend....your parents are only trying to protect you.....
How old are you by the way?

Who actually did the disfellowshipping?
by barbar in.
when i was disfellowshipped, i was really looking for a way out, although i did not want to be disfellowshipped, it was easier than making the break on my own.. i appreciate that many are distraught when they get df'd, but was the actual meeting controlled by the elders or you?.
how many were really in control of the meeting and knew that being disfellowshipped was actually a way of ensuring that you would get no more hassle from the elders?

I was not very co-operative....I was a little forced into the whole meeting by my then husband.....so, I stayed silent, and kept my answers short...when they tried to dig for more info, I stayed straight faced and didn't respond. The whole ordeal took atleast 3 days...I swear, and like 6 hours each with a lunch break in between...they tried so hard to break me...and I just wanted them to make the decision ready......when they finally did...my ex flipped out...and yelled 'Cant you see! This is exactly what she wanted!'...yep, he got it right......it was exactly what I wanted. And though I have no immediate family....(mother, father, sister) to speak too anymore.....as one poster put it 'I'd rather slit my throat then go back'....AMEN!!!

My ex used the term "worldly" people to my daughter...and she told him that she felt that word to be a discrimanating term used by witnesses when they preach about not being prejudice they label non JW's and it's very hypocritical. It stopped him in his tracks....so he now just says 'non-witnesses' to her. I was so proud of her! She's only 13.....She came up with that remark on her own, I had never even thought of that argument.
