My exhibition private view is tomorrow :s - wish me luck?
by reboot inim so nervous...10 of us are exhibiting at a prestigious gallery in the south.was ok but am bricking it now.its in a beautiful georgian house gallery that dickens and thackery regularily visited when it was a house...(you can vote for it on restoration programme bbc2 july 25- or it could close...arts funding crisis looming..remember....art feeds the soul and soothes the mind and is sometimes the most easily accessable social concince/voice.....).
.hope everyone turns up.should have 150-200 people ..invitations have gone out..copious amounts of wine ordered..food bought..have got waitresses sorted out and just got to hope we're well received or we'll all be in the corners drinking and bereft of all our confidence.......i've invited all my local friends most of whom are school teachers or just lovely , so they might justcounteract a friend's over critical father and another's partner who's able to flatten your confidenceat 50 paces....can you tell ive hit the winealready?
lol im throwing them all a party to celebrate the end of this course and the start of the degree next sat so if its a disaster we'll jsut drown our sorrows there...and if we sell any we're all going on holiday together... i'll post if it was a total disaster...and *newsflash* reboot's gonna wear a skirt.....

Hi Reboot,
yes I did get to see Black rmc and paddled around a bit in the process and found it increasingly difficult to remain upright! Saw some guys having a great time body skidding in all of the mud it was hilarious!
Muse were (as I anticipated) absolutely fantastic.! Sod the mud...watching those guys perform took me elsewhere!
It was great to meet you, never thought it would be possible with so many people and so many things to do!
We saw the rainbow too, we were stood right in the middle of it whilst my kids were sheltering in the dodgems.
The she-pees were a knockout, plucked up the courage after speaking with you!
As you say...roll on next year!

I gently faded at first, going to the odd meetings until it became too hard to bear. I am now a full blown despiser of all that they teach and consequently haven't attended any meetings since last years memorial.
Now I wouldn't go back there if I was paid to do so, I despise the building, those that attend and their teachings. I have grown so much since leaving all of that behind and really feel that I am a completely different person than what I was when I was subserviently doing what was expected of me.
I wouldn't give a shit if they decided to disfellowship me now... Let them find a reason...
I'm not saying that I would give in gracefully, I still have plenty that I would like to say to them. However, they do not rule me any more. I take charge of my own life. They are now very much insignificant to me these days. I think that they know that anyway and that is why they have allowed me to drift...
Watch this space........

That They Be Called Shepherds
by Farkel ini recently put up a thread which discussed the fact that the wts does not hesitate to promote and sell books containing "old light" to its membership and the public.
well, that thread was about material things and to a lesser extent spiritual things.. how does the wts feel about spiritual things?
let's take a peek.

A shepherding call, in my memory always carried connotations of trouble; meaning that if one was the recipient of such attention, one was certainly heading down the wrong path. Shepherding therefore meant that an individuals 'wrongdoing' was being brought to the congregations attention in a subtle way.
On the other hand, I became very well aware of numerous members of my old congregation that were crying out for help and were suffering in a very big way and there were no 'shepherds' available to assist them. The only 'help' available was in the form of so-called special needs talks which were designed to encourage more praying, meeting attendance and field service, which somehow seemed to imply that those experiencing difficulties were nothing but weak.

cocktails/mixing drinks
by baysixforme ini went to a bbq the other night and had a couple of glasses of white wine before being offered a white rum with black pepper.
i knocked back two of those...not particularly large ones either and that was it...i was somewhere else!.
the good part about it was that i was with some good friends who were able to take care of me....the bad part was that i could hardly remember anything the next day.

Things may well depend upon the status of the congregation that you visited.
In my case there were a lot that coincidently drifted/left/disfellowshipped/dissasociated/faded, and of those that were left behind, a substantial amount of them were either born into it through generations and didn't have the guts/means or inclination to leave and there were also others that simply half-heartedly went with the flow, (i.e. needed constant reminders via special needs talks to make them answer up, go out on field service or simply attend meetings)! I'm sure my congregation wasn't specifically different to any other!
Therefore, in my case, when the elders came-a -knocking, I simply told them how it was for me, I didn't hold back or give them any bullshit and as a consequence, they were unable to pursuade me to return.
I can understand your fear, I have felt that before, yet with time I am sure that you will be able to focus upon what is right for you and not what is right for them, also, the advice that has been previously given here with regards to 'being out' or 'having something else to do' at the time of the arranged appointment with them is something to be worthy of consideration?
Whatever suits you is what you need to go with.
Take care,
Regards,

HELP! Urgent advice needed - Child Custody - JW Mother
by catlady inmy partner ('beaker' on jwd) & i are having rapidly escalating child custody issues.
(see previous thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/71815/1.ashx) tonight when the kids (7 & 9 yrs) were dropped back to their mother's she announced that his access was going to be further reduced as of now.. she is very nasty anyway, constantly regeging on previous arrangements & given the borg stuff is also thrown in the mix my partner is going to try for full custody.
the solicitor (who has worked on previous jw cases) we have consulted with does not think we can bring the jw stuff up with a judge.

As shotgun already said, I would steer clear of citing religion as a main cause of concern. I'm in the UK and have had similar issues in the past and am presently anticipating a major battle in court.
The main criteria should be the welfare of the child/ren and that goes down well with the authorities, and I'm sure that would be in your part of the world too! It might be worth considering, and I don't mean this lightly.....that there is a difference between what pisses us off personally about the absent/other parent and what the courts, family court welfare officers, social workers etc deem to be a legitimate cause for complaint. This is of course a difficult thing to do at times when emotions run high and principles are being violated.
If you can voice your concerns about your issues....and do this in a calm and reasonable manner, (which is under the circumstances is sometimes very difficult to do), then this will go a long way, especially when the same people that interview you will be also speaking to the other party, a member of a high control and lets face it....a deviant religious adherent of a minority faith with weird practices!!!! C'mon let it speak for itself!
Don't lose heart. Things can turn out right in the end. I do know the anguish involved with child custody battles and the anticipation can be gut-wrenching. But one thing that I have learned is that, If you stick your neck out for what is right and do not waver and at all times bear in mind, (respectfully) with whom you are dealing with, you can win!
Keep us informed,
